The picture and the name Perumal Chetty brought back a lot of nostalgia, as my generation in South India grew up and were literally educated by "Perumal Chetty" Pencils and Stationery.

I remember one of my classmates in school bringing a VPC-branded pencil box (on which it also said 'Madras Pencil Factory') for a while- though that was fairly recently (1995).
