Some interesting registrations from the North West, 1930s.

WP-4875 looks like a British registration (West of England-Bristol); later changed to United Provinces UP-1228-SR.

Austin perhaps ? Car seems to have provisions for both rear and side spare mounts.

This is such a great picture, supposedly from Karachi


A) The car is at a Petrol pump, notice the period petrol equipment.

B) There is banner in the air in the middle, it reads "Burmah Shell Petrol ?"

C) Also note that though this is Karachi, the curious crowd around is dressed up in all different styles of Hindustan !

My grandfather's Wolseley 8 (now blue and in the Geedee Museum, Coimbatore) was MSP-9311. Ten registrations "older". He made the English style aluminium plate numbers himself.

Now has a "fake" KLZ-433 number. Don't think it ever had that.

These pics come from E-Bay. There were a lot of pics, must have been taken from an album belonging to a Britisher who spent time in India. There were 8 pics. in all which I picked up. Here is one more pic.
Some of the pics were definitely from Rajasthan, but some may be from Karachi, so all were labelled as such.

In that case surely this must have been wrongly labelled as Karachi, it looks very much like Rajasthan as per the clothes of the onlookers.

In 1910-11 a national exhibition was organized in Allahabad, the capital of the United Provinces.

The description at the source reads "Kronprinzens car before the exhibition in Allahabad" (Google translation) (Meaning of Kronprinzens/Kronprinz : crown prince, male heir apparent to the throne.)

This photo is from a collection of 9,391 photographic negatives titled 'World Travel' by renowned British photographer J. Dearden Holmes. The exact dates of the trip are unknown but estimated to have been between 1915 and 1930.
