@Prabal, really lovely pics. indeed! What colour was the Super 10 btw? It doesnt look black, seems a lighter colour. Maybe it was Green?
And what colour was the fiat delight? The shine of its grille and bumper in the sunlight is just awesome! A brand new car of today's gen. just couldnt have that kind of glitter!

Karl- lovely pic.! I recall seeing a similar pic. of Marine Drive in some mag....cant recall which one!

Now try & find some pic. of the same place a decade or 2 later- when you could find Heralds- and of course Fiats!

This is relatively recent, shot in the late 70s, I think in Mahabaleshwar. Thats my dad with a lovely Hudson he spotted.

These barges were a regular sight in Mahabaleshwar, where till not too long ago (read mid 90s) you could still see many Dodge, Chevy and Ford taxis. I have some pics, will dig them up. Today there is just one 47 Ford Van taxi in Wai, just outside of Mahabaleshwar.

Hey nice pic Jayd. That certainly is not a beetle it is a Fiat 500 "Topolino" with a Rag top, seems to be between 1952-55 models.

Wow is the word..amazing photographs there karlos.. The herald in one of your snaps reminds me of the herald that my family used to own sometime back. Same color and u know how amazing the combo was. Have seen a lot of heralds but this particular combo has a classy touch to it . coincidentally our vehicle was also regd MS something ..now i dont remember the number, will have to check wid my dad.

I didn't mean it was a bug as in beetle. I meant it was a bug fiat!!(that's what these topolinos were called here!)

Heres another one.My dad and me! By the time i was born, all the classic cars had disappeared from our family!

Thanks Stanher, sorry for going missing again awhile! The Standard 10 was indeed green in colour. While the Fiat Delite was steel grey.

Interesting story about the Fiat's colour - when the allotment finally came after waiting six years from the date of booking, we went to take delivery from Prince Automobiles at Jallandhar in 1971 and found that in the lot of 9 cars that had come to them, one was white, another steel grey that looked really attractive and seven were a horrible shade of saffron/orange. Every allottee wanted the steel grey, or as a second choice the white and were driving the Manager up the wall for the favour. Papa had resigned himself to what had to happen and had gone out for a smoke and fresh air (strange combination of activities though!), when the Manager called him in and said that the steel grey was his! This car was really special.

Hey Karl I have travelled in the 47 Ford Van Taxi from Panchgani to Wai on numeruos occasions during the late eighties. The locals call this one "Taam Taam"; The picture really bring backs memories of the good old days during my month long vacations in Panchgani.

Sorry Karl, missed out on this reply earlier - could've combined in one post too, then. It was rankling at the back of my brain that I've forgotten something. Age is catching up! Yes, the Super 10 sports an Assam registration - the picture was shot in Shillong, to be precise.

As these are quite interesting photographs, the fact that some may not use links and the discovery that they are legally uploadable, I am posting them.

Great pictures Julian, appreciate and thanks for sharing with us.

Specially street scene with old cars, it tells many things about the period
and history. Fascinated to see lot of lovely cars around the streets.

If you know similar street scene pictures of other cities of India, Bombay,
Madras, Dehli, Hyderabad or London, please share with us.

Regards,
