Dodge ?

This is my uncle's Dodge 20's, I was too young to remember much details, except he told me that this car does not have battery it runs on magnet.
This was sold to somebody in Bombay and it was on the way to Bombay, this pic was taken on Khandala, as per my father.

A Wolseley perhaps?

Also some great photos of a long journey undertaken in an old London Taxi, that also crossed through India

Morris flat radiator?

This car looks like early Morris with flat radiator model after bull-nose design stopped. This Morris was owned by my uncle in early 60's according to him, this picture I find in his personal collection of photos.

He used to have another car dark green Rover, one of the best never seen again. According to him it was imported by Nawab of Hyd, who went for education in England. It was very silent car, with very beautiful rosewood like dash, unfortunately did not have any picture with me.

No offence but I'm all the more fascinated by the Herald in this photo!

It appears to be some sort of garage. Where in Hyd. was this taken?

Hi Vintagepoint,

This Morris was not called a Flatnose. After the Bullnose, the flatnose was introduced, but these were actually Morris Oxfords. And their chassis was much longer, comfortable 4 door tourers and sedans. Yes, there were dicky seaters too, but the chassis was longer. This would probably be a Minor.
Nevertheless, a nice picture.

Cheers harit

Hi Staner,

Yes there is Herald in the background and I too love Heralds, my father used to have one for short time in Madras it was lovely sky blue colour and runs smoothly like sports.

Background garage:
I don't know I got this picture from his old photos collection, even this Morris car I did not see myself. My uncle used to repairs at various mechanics, one I remember is used to be located behind Gulf Air office on chappal road, there used to old workshop and I was kid saw very interesting car in that workshop. Other workshops on James street parallel to Railway line. Gandhi bhavan workshop is also very old.

Harit bhai,

Yes you are right this is Minor, I don't know much about this car, I did not even seen this car. When can we see your fabulous collection of Adlers, Buicks, Packard which were under restoration.! Please share it if possible.

DKG:

Those guys at Hind Motor Driving School had a Model A Tourer in which I guess a bulk of Hyderabadi people learned to drive.

In later years they moved on to Ambys, Fiats and then even Maruti's

The Ford was restored, though not very well and kept in covered parking. They also had the only two Model A Ford Woodies left in Hyd.

Both were in deplorable sate and badly needed TLC.

The also had one of tehose fifties Dodge / Plymouth Sedans too that they claimed was their family car.

Ford A

Some pictures of Ford from Hind Motor Driving website:

Hind Motor Training School - Gallery

Before I used to see very good condition dark green Ford with instructor teaching driving to students, it may be another old school by name Amar Motor driving school near Care hospital on Mozamjahi market.

Nice old pics. However, the pics. captioned as taken in 1963 in their gallery seem to be of a much later date- going by the attire of the people in it plus one of the Ambys has an AAU regn., which would make it mid 70s!

I am not 100% sure, but this Citroen is the 1919 which was picked up around the same time as the Lagonda in Hyderabad and went to Chennai. From Chennai she went to an estate in Bangalore and then on to amchi Mumbai.
Anyone knows better?

Cheers harit
