The website would be Cars :: Indian Memory Project

Some of the pics uploaded there are quite interesting. All copyrighted images of course.

Ever heard of a village named Apte? Just wondering if such a place exists.

Cheers

More Locomobile
Posted on April 6, 2011 by Chris Paulsen

One of my favorite Locomobile photos is from one of their advertising brochures from 1910. The brochure details the trip of a Locomobile; around India and the Middle East. This photo is captioned "Waiting for Ferry, Kalyan, India." The tires are covered to protect them from the sun

I never knew that Locomobiles came to India. Maybe the car was taken out after the tour? It must have been expensive, suited to Maharaja purses. How fitting that Doc has now bought one.

This Heckflosse had tumbled rather badly, note the side glasses remained intact. No idea if the car was rebuilt.

Cheers harit

By sheer coincidence, a 1909 Locomobile Model 30 is for sale in USA. These are quite rare.
Seen on prewarcar.com

I am not aware of any Locomobile purchase by DOc and its existence in India. Unless this car survived back after its tour

Cheers

I have evidence of a 1902 "8-seater" that came to India. Maybe I will find others if I dig through my archives!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Around the World in the Locomobile book is available on Google Books:
search for "The Locomobile Book : The Car of 1911"

It was undertaken by Mrs. Harriet Clark Fisher and lasted from July 1909 - Aug 1910

Attached is a fuller picture of the car

I never said that the Locomobile existed in India. Doc purchased one, and it may even appear in the forthcoming Pebble Beach. The car is with him, but not in India. I don't have and not seen pics.

Cheers

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

((Calcutta around 1944-47))
"The South Asia Section of the Van Pelt Library, University of Pennsylvania recently acquired from a bookdealer a photograph album consisting of 60 photographs of Calcutta taken most likely between 1945-1946.
The photographer, Mr. Claude Waddell, was a military photographer. He also provided the interesting glosses accompanying each photograph. Several attested copies of this work has emerged including one with a 'title page' held by the Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana.".

Hi ariesou,
These photos have been posted before, if you google Claude Wadell you will see many more photos. He was an American military photographer.
Now the funny part. Two collectors in India proudly showed me their "original" albums of Claude Waddell, and now that university has aquired another. Maybe many albums were created. But never the less, fantastic pictures.
