Calcutta Tolly Car Show - Jan. 2009

Impeccable 1974 MG-B owned by Karin Akumgam.
She works with the German Consulate here and while posted in Vancouver a number of years ago had acquired this car.

What is a "brooklands Kit" anyway ?????

Strappping on an extra spare and leather bonnet tie downs doesn't make an MG a "Brookelands Special" by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes you are right wasif the extra spare wheel or the bonnet ties don't make it a brookland special.

The Brookland kit included some additional features like aluminium tapid covers, aluminium break drums, etc.I'm trying to find out all the additional features. Will let you know shortly.

Ok now i found some stuff on which says the MG TC Brooklands kit included-

1). Aluminium Tapid covers.

2). Aluminium Break drums.

3).Brooklands racing screen. A pic is given below

4).Brooklands four spoke wired steering wheel with the MG Badge in the center which is missing in the pic below.

5).Leather hood straps.

6).Fog lamps

7).A full set of weather equipment including tonneau cover and side screens.

No where did i find anything about a double stepney so can't really say anything about it.But yes the hood straps aredefinately original.

I think all MG TC's come with an aluminium tappet cover and brake drums.

The aero screens were also a popular option. Not so sure about the "brooklands steering wheel"

Do post a like to where you found this information.

I have a parts cataloge for the TC if anyone here is interested in a copy do let me know.

No wasif they came with cast iron tappet covers and brake drums for sure.I am saying this because the brake drum on Mr.Ajmera's MG were recently replaced by aluminium ones,it originally had cast iron Drums.

Yes the Aero screens are a common one.The brookland steering wheel i found on the latest parts catalog.

This white MG WBC 5868 is a lovely car, very well restored and highly detailed as the restorer is known for his work. Real eye candy.
But just what is this tag "Brooklands"? Such a thing did not exist officially with MG's. Brooklands would be a name given to give a more sporting image with sporting accessories. These would have been the wire mesh on the headlights, maybe some second mesh over the grill. Such similar accessories were available. But other accessories like double stepney, leather strap, aero screens etc are basically decoration. If a name is give like Brooklands, well, that was not an official christening. And please do Google MG Brookland and see a dealership in Ireland founded in 1985! And it seems this was also the name of a colour shade. Did someone actually sell an add-on kit called "Brooklands"? Well, MG did not! If they did, I am not aware and would like to see evidence. My MG feels naked.
As far as I know, for an MG TC, this is added decoration. Older racing MG's, but not definitely TC's had similar accessories. And I have quite a few old pictures where MG TC's are present, including racing in India. BUT, this type of decoration is missing.
More clarifications are definitely called for.

Cheers harit
