Fake badge?

In post#96, timestamped: 29th December 2009 17:23, by karlosdeville, I say that
the grille badge on the 1948 Wolseley 12 bhp seems to be a fake. The fabricator has misspelled Wolseley as Woleseley and the cursive script against a black background is also not authentic.

I believe that the correct badge should be as
below.

karlosdeville, harit and wasif,
if you know different, please correct me.

Hi Ram.

You are absolutely correct.

The first badge with the black background appears to have been fabricated. The fabriator has also misspelled the Wolseley name on it.

Apart from that the unique part about this particular type of original Wolseley badge, like the one in your second picture, is that it is on an off white bakgraound and made in plastic so that at night when the lights are switched on a small bulb behind the emblem would also go on resulting in an illuminated Wolsley badge.

Pictured below is another example of the genuine Wolseley Illuminating Emblem.

Which car is this fake badge on ?

Yup, it does indeed seem replicated. The tacky font is a dead giveaway, besides of course the incorrect spelling. And I think the originals used to light up.

The Wol(E)seley badge is definitely a replica. Good spotting.
But, please consider that many Wolseleys have lost this Monogram/badge and have an ugly hole in place. Because it is made of plastic, the badge also tends to age, similar to the plastic inserts in American car bagdes of the 1940's/1950's. So this is definitely a good solution. If only a spell check was used. But the car is a Wolseley alright.
BTW, I do have a 16HP Wolseley and its badge was missing. I got an unused one from Chor Bazar Friday market for Rs 25/-, just one of those lucky events.

Cheers harit

Can someone confirm that the Sportscraft drive to Khandala will be held again this year? I have been told by various sources that it is to be held on the 12th of December.
