Hi There.

Great pics and some really nice cars.

Haven't seen vintageman's cars earlier, they are a feast for the eyes. Love the Jag. Do you have any pics of the Jaguar's interiors, engine and the rear.

Also that 1913 RR Ghost is very interesting. Could you post more pics of it and its history.

A trivia regarding this 1950 single owner single colour Rover.
Heard Vintageman at the rally yesterday, reminiscing about having sumptuous Biryani in the backseat of this car in the early 70's with the owner, who's a childhood friend.

Regarding your other query, please see my previous post.

Wasif Bhai,
Please give me some time for your queries as the Rolls history requires quite a bit of typing.

Great collection of Cars and some great photos, thanks.

The three Rolls are quite awesome, all in one family, must be nice!
Can anyone tell me about the history of the "stuff" above the front bumpers, looks very interesting.

Some of the paint colours are way off unfortunately, but that seems to be common here. At least the cars are well loved and maintained so there is hope yet.

@ Perak,
Those Willys MB, CJ2A & GPW looks to be the complete. The masterpieces of restoration; especially CJ2A, neatly restored.
Are all these jeeps is having their original hurricane petrol engines ??

Good show, and welcome aboard. Its refreshing to see some new cars for a change - Lucknow/Kanpur events are seldom represented here.

Nice to see another Minx cabrio - I assume it is genuine and not cut? A very pretty car.

Any more pics of the Model A Pickup showing the body style?

No. 30 is obviously not a 1946 Minor, being a 50s highlight saloon.

Regarding Tariq Ibrahim's Jeep - just a thought - how can an army vehicle be single owned? They were not sold new to civilians right?

The Kanpur Car Show & Drive 2010

Welcome Perak ,

(For people on this forum - Perak is my younger brother - excessively enamoured with his 1951 Jawa Perak) .

The Vintage & Classic Car Club of Cawnpore held their annual vintage car rally and drive past on 24th of January 2010. They were courteous enough to invite the Lucknow Club members over for their do. The event was flagged off from and culminated at , Green Park stadium , where the cars were also displayed at a show which was widely attended by the local enthusiasts on a very large scale. Speaking on behalf of the Lucknow contingent the Kanpur club has gained our admiration with the arrangements and the enthusiasm which made the show a resounding success . Mention must also be made of the impeccable organisation and the courteousness of the hosts . Reminded us of "Lucknavi Tehzeeb".

Some trivia about the cars :

The green Riley is a first owner car and in it's previous black avatar and gleaming original chrome was a sight to behold; it was a daily driver (with the owner at the wheel ) in an immaculate condition seen regularly on Kanpur roads; it's passage through the FIATS & AMBASSADORS inspired my passion for things vintage.

The Rover owned by Zulfiqar "Chote" Nadri - another first owner car which used to drop him off at school during the 60's and revisit the school during the lunch recess with the biryani. Kanpur had 3 such cars and 2 of them were owned by my class mates.

The Lucknow cars averaged 50 km/hr - the return passage was made in the dusk and arrival at Lucknow coincided with the fog rolling in.

The 1913 Silver Ghost was purchased by the present owners great -grandfather in 1928 and has remained with the family since . The renovation work and the standard of renovation shows the love , care and affection that the present owner and family have for the car.

I have been seeing the Singhania Rolls around for ages . I recollect the convertible Plymouth used to be white and was used for all their marriages. There is a 1949 Buick Super 8 in their garage , which could not attend as the upholstery is under repair .

An interesting fact that most of the cars at the Kanpur show including the Rolls Royces belonged to the alumnii (including me ) of the local Methodist High School (its been around since 1876) , which would earn the old alma mater the distinction of producing the largest number of vintage owners.

Among the cars present special mention needs to be made of

- the restoration & NC paint finish of the Hindustan 14 owned by Mr. Rajiv Singh - it was excellent , much better and more appropriate than the 2k ( PUF ) finishes .

- the GPW of Faisal Ibrahim - a first owner vehicle, in the family for 3 generations ( since 1943 ) .

- Mr. Farid Aziz & Sahil Farid with their 1947 Chevrolet Fleetmaster , 1947 Rover 10 , 1927 Austin Chummy .

- the cars which were driven from Allahabad, a to & fro drive of 450 kms- in terrible weather conditions

- Arnold "Freddie" Barlow for keeping the Singhania Rolls Royces running and for the arrangements .

I hope more enthusiasts from this region will appear on this forum now.

Regards
Chauhan

The cars are indeed a treat for the eyes.

I am sure by first owner they mean the jeep has been with them fromt he time it was sold on by teh armed forces.

The Jeeps were only sold to the US armed forces who in turn lent them out to the allies.

I don't think the 1943 date is correct though as the Jeeps would have been demobilised only after 1944 /45.

Perak and vintageman very good coverage with some fantastic pictures. Kanpur/Lucknow have their own fleet of vintage beauties. After all, conducting rallies regularly keep the beauties fit and fine, as owners take all the care to do so for the event.
