Bentley UPX-123 Transformation

The Bentley UPX-123 at the Statesman Rally 2010 seems to have undergone a transformation in a few years. The earlier picture is from "The Bentleys in India" thread, post # 102 (where it was mentioned that the car was being modified)

Noticeable differences are:
1. Door line - straight vs "Vanden Plas" type cut (currently)
2. One piece vs folding windshield (currently)
3. Car seems to have acquired a "Lalique" Hood Ornament, vs a winged "B"

Can anyone get the chassis number - this may be the Nabha Car also in the Bentleys thread. Also wonder what the "JB" is in the middle of the front bumper

The best part was some cars just came out of statesman house and then stopped around the corner. There was a perticular car that was over heating and throwing out water.I pointed it out to the driver and he took it very casually and then only to see the car had stopped.

That RR Skiff looks so neat, is that from Ranjit Mallik. What is its background.

That set of drawers on the RR look too crude to have been done by any professional coachbuilder, may be they are period add ons done by one of its earlier owners.
This car has WGJ number and this car was originally from asansol in west Bengal. Willtry and find some more relevent info on this one.

This RR came from Asansol, it was originally a shootingbrake, i.e. it had a wooden station wagon type body. Then she was purchased by Mr. Malik and restored by Mr. Dhawan. The body now fitted is not original to this car. Incidently, Mr. Dhawan is holding a RR with this type of body which belongs to a south Indian Royal family. Apparently the body has been copied from that car. This has been perhaps 10 years in the making.

This is so typical, an original car improved to make it look like what it never was. Seems to be a disease common nowadays. Sad, poor Bentley. Is the owner even aware about the sacrilage committed?

Today the morning started at 6.00 am when i left for the event and called wbd8779 (salman) to ask him if he would be coming to the event but being a sunday morning he was sleeping. Anyway after about 15-20 minutes i get a call from him and there was a confusion of the time of the flagoff so we cleared that and i met up with a person who was taking his classic to the rally and i tagged along with him.

It was a plesent drive early in the morning on the toll road with hardly in traffic going in a classic and enjoying all the attention.

We reached Statesman house to see the cars being lined up by number and then i started clicking away.

I get a call from salman and then he came and we started off admiring and looking into all the cars.

Enough talking. Now sit back and enjoy the pics.

Cars lined up outside Statesman House -

Look close and you will see UPX 123 looks like a clone of DEC 7084.

Are thry both from the same owner of were they both worked on by the same garage ?

Love the Ardita WBB 1963, its a real nice looking car.

The Ford "Speedster Roadster" DBD 8448 is also sweet....needs to be put up on the Hot Rods in Inda thread... any idea if the engine is still the original or has it been worked on or replaced.

Those rims and tires too suit the look of the car.

Indrojit nice to know you were able to make it to the event and took lots of pics...please put them all up .

DEC 7084 and UPX 123 are the same year and model. They are owned by different people. DEC 7084 is black in colour and has been restored in England and UPX 123 is dark green with the bonets black in colour and has been restored in Delhi by Mr. Dhawan.

The ford dosen't have a complete body so that's why all the pieces they had they have put together. This car was advertised in a magazine for sale.

I can't put up all the pics but will definately put all the cars and the relevent ones to it.
