Aah, I guessed so!!

Thanks a ton, sir!! A very lovely, original car indeed; but for a couple of missing trims! A pity it wasnt entered in the rally though! It looks like its still in original paint, although I could be wrong.
How I wish I got to see more of these running around here these days!

Hi Indrojit.

Great job with the pics...you have made all of us happy with your dedicated efforts.

Pleasse check post 43,44 and 45 and upload those pics that have not attached properly.

As I said before the cars are truly amazing and we have indeed moved the goalposts far ahead in terms of quality of restoration.

The best part is that the cars all show acceptable level of embelishments too and are not really overboard with the badges and the lights.

In my opinion the best car by looks was the yellow 38 Buick Eight tourer UPD 7650....the paint, the chrome and the stance of that car is truly a sight to behold.

This is closely followed by #38 the Plymouth PJ6 another class act.

The RR's and the Bentleys are nice too but the above cars take the cake for me.

The 48 Buick sedan BRM 166 looks a bit funny with those faux portholes on the hood.

Is the Graham Blue Streak the Mallya car that was recently seen at an event in Bombay ?

I am very intrigued with # 31 the Red Packard billed as a 34 Packard 12. Is it really a V12 ? Do you have any pics of the engine and the sides of the car, it looks truly majestic but a bit too flashy with the chromed bonnet. What is the history of the car?

The #55 Bentley also looks a bit funny with the black bonnet.

Did you know that the Lincoln belonging to Dimpy Kapoor was mine earlier.. It is a 51 Sports Sedan and is wrongly billed here as a 54.

Hi Wasif

Thankx it was a great pleasure to cover it. I have spoken to the mods and have done the what they asked me to do for it to become alright which i have done.

Can't really comment on the Graham maybe Harit could tell us something about it at the bombay event.

I have some more pic but none of the engine since the cars were being flagged off so hardly got a chance to photograph the engine.

I knew that the Lincon was yours i had read it somewhere. There are loads of mistakes in the car models and year.Could you share something about this car?

Regards

Indrojit, this time you have done an excellent work. You have photographed all the cars, even the so called mundane cars, and shown them in proper light. Have enjoyed the pics and more so that the attached pics could be put properly.
That some cars are wrongly labelled is ofcourse not your fault. This has three reasons, carelessness of the organisers, ignorance of the owner or misrepresentation. Normally misrepresentation occurs for the prize of the oldest car, and sometimes to bring the entry to pre 1920. Sounds familiar?

I have heard two stories related to Packard, but I am not sure if it is this one. One was a Nabha V12, the other was that the car belonged to the scion of an industial house and he used the car for fishing and bird hunting. Whatever, must get to the story of this car. To me she does not look familiar. At the moment!

The Standard on the poster does not seem to be of a car in India, but there is a Hyderabad origin similar car in India. I believe that only 5 or 6 of this model exist in the world.

The Graham is NOT a Graham-Paige, it is just a Graham. This owner also owns the yellow Buick Roadster. This Graham was never Mallya's, confusion happens because a Packard of Mallya with the same colour scheme took part in the Mumbai event and detailing/restoration was done by the same person.

Many of the Kashyap cars originated in Goa.

Graham-Paige seems to require major attention to the front axle/suspension.

Now let us see what happens in the forthcomming Mumbai event on 14th March.

Cheers harit

Indrojit,

This is a 1955 Studebaker Champion, a car very close to my dad's heart because he had the same model as his very first car in his college days in around 1969 or so. He bought the car second hand but in great condition for Rs. 2500/- from the then Chairman of a very influential British tea and jute agency house called Balmer Lawrie, who purchased it as the official Chairman's car when it was new. Lovely cars and great pics.

Was it 2500/- or 25,000/-??! Wow, cant believe a yank car could be had as low as 2500/- in the 60s!!

BTW Indrojit, may I point out that this Dodge Kingsway mentioned as a 1958 model is actually a '56:

Attaboy Indrojit. Way to go. Love the in-depth coverage. I can imagine the time spent on the computer. The mouse must've traveled the distance of Delhi to Kolkata and back.
Keep up the good work.
Any comments on the Morgan?

I would believe that 2500 is the correct figure. In the end of 1960's these were already old cars, spares were becoming a problem, fuel efficiency was bad, and there were lots and lots available. The price level reached 25000 around the end of 1980's. This is general, average valuation, there will always be cars that were sold cheaper or more expensive.
Do you have an idea what the value of Rs 2500/- was at that time? A bottle of Coke cost Rs 0.45 at that time. I know, thats what it cost me in my school canteen. My bus fare was Rs 0.05 for a distance of about 2.5KM.
No wonder some are upset about todays pricing!!
