I've been reading this site and particularly, this section with interest. I'm of Indian origin (used to live there when I was small) and it looks like I might be coming to India in the future.

Some lovely machines around the country from what I can see and some amazing stuff in the threads. The Maharaja's certainly bought some amazing cars many of which turn up in Auctions abroad now!

In particular, I've been reading the threads here with interest for some time! Looking at a combination of these threads below, I've think I've come up with a new thread of my own!

1. Vintage and Classic car valuation

2. Top Ten Collectible cars in India

3. Jaipur Classic Car Rally

4. Lonavala Classic Car Rally

5. India's Concours D'elegance

From my limited experience, it would seem that some of the cream of India's cars are in these threads (particularly in 2 and 5). Reading the opening lines of the thread "Vintage and Classic Car valuation" I started to wonder, what these cars would actually cost to buy if you're going to buy them in India? Would they cost less than they do abroad or would they cost more? Do people abroad often try to persuade owners to sell?

Which cars are the most desirable ones? Are they the most expensive? Is rare = desirable = expensive, an automatic conclusion in India?

Looks like a difficult question to answer so I hope I get an answer to my first ever post!

Hi Faster789,

First of all, welcome to Team-BHP!

Further to the questions you have raised, for me the actual value of a vintage car in India can be known by how rare it is and to which extent it has been restored. Also, it all depends on the seller and buyer. How keen is the later on buying the car/bike for that matter.

I am a newbie in vintage session and my knowledge is limited. I aplogize if I am giving this thread an incorrect direction. Gurus in-house must be able to give a more appropriate and well judged answer.

Thanks for your reply! I guess that no-one really has the knowledge to answer the question and it would be all guesswork reallly. All the best.

AFA as your question goes, i would put my guesses or money on Jodhpur Delhaye...

There is no dearth of Knowleldgable on the forum. ANd infact many are internationally renowned too.

As for your topic There has been many discussions on that in various thread.

Now this catagory can be split into cars that are in the public domain as is the Delahaye and the 8 L Bentleys and those atha are known to be there but are not in teh public domain ...or for that matter have not been seen by many.

There is a certain Cadillac V16 that falls in this catagory as is a certain racing Bugatti !

Wonderful car, the V16, but not quite in the same league as some of the more exotic stuff, like some of the Maharaja Rolls Royces, etc.

Would be interesting to hear about the stuff that isn't quite out there yet without compromising the owner's details, location or other aspects of privacy. Keep it about the cars. The cars that are in the public domain must have been private before they became public at one point.
