Meanwhile CIVAA members Ashish, Anupam, Mehul, Purvesh from the Orange City of Nagpur have commenced their run for the DESERT STORM Rally from Ahmedabad to Delhi. Nagpurians Mitesh and Yogesh are also with them participating.
We wish to cheer them all up with the lines "Hum Honge Kamyaab" (We shall overcome) :-

The body looks well done particularly from the side. Interesting concept. Is it a 6 cyl. Austin?

CIVAA congratulates its founder member and Treasurer Shreesh Deodhar for his mechanical restoration of the 1929 Mercedes Nurburg [engine, gearbox, differential, suspension & brakes]. This work was done during Sept-Nov 2010 , has won the Best Resurrection Prize at the Cartier 'Travel With Style' Concours D'elegance held at the Jaipur Polo Grounds, New Delhi on 12 March 2011.
Shreesh of Nagpur has been acknowledged by a panel of International automobile judges for his World Class Restoration on a vintage car.
The body work restoration was done to perfection by Marespand Dadachanji.

CIVAA held a dinner meeting yesterday, 08/04/2011 at Hotel NH 1 in Shankar Nagar. The agenda comprised slide and video display of two major events that CIVAA members recently participated in.
(1) The Cartier 'Travel With Style' Concours D'elegance held at the Jaipur Polo Grounds, New Delhi on 12 March 2011 wherein members Shirish Deodhar and Shahrukh Cassad were invited. They have clicked beautiful pictures of the 56 beauties that had participated on invitation. The commentary by Shahrukh made it all the more interesting.
(2) The Desert Storm Rally of 2011 where CIVAA members Ashish, Anupam, Mehul and Purvesh from the Orange City of Nagpur had participated was next on our agenda. The participants journeyed from Ahmedabad to Delhi. Nagpurians Mitesh and Yogesh also participated.The videos and slides were quite breath taking and showcased the might of the Maruti Gypsies.These are perhaps best suited to traverse the treacherous stretches through the sandy roads (if any) and even beach side roads.Being light in weight the wheels get less influenced by the loose sand.The other motor vehicles included many Esteems, Balenos, Pajeros, Safaris (from team Tata) and some Mahindras. A new Skoda Yeti with a GJ number plate was entered by a first timer who faced some problems and later quit. All the participants from Nagpur completed the run successfully despite the several mechanical problems they faced even the evening before D Day, when the Gypsy owned by Purvesh and Mehul had gearbox and differential problems.In fact an axle had to be dismantled along with its differential.So also the Pajero of Asish and Anupam had some niggles which had to be sorted out.They did 3500 kms in seven days.

CIVAA heartily congratulates Iqbalbhai (Mr Iqbal Ahmed) who has been invited to the North American Model Engineering Expo to be held at Detroit, Michigan on 30/04/2011.The artist and his son Mr Arif have left for the US with the miniature working model of the 1886 Benz Motorwagen to participate.The Le Meridien Group is sponsoring the trip.

CIVAA held a General Body Meeting on 18/07/2011 to discuss about the forthcoming Independence Day Vintage and Classic Rally here at Nagpur.
So on 15/08/2011 CIVAA is organising a rally. The finer details are being worked out and will be posted here once finalised.
There will be an element of surprise in all likelihood !
Meanwhile, on 23/07/2011 (Saturday) CIVAA is organising a dinner meet, where highlights of the recent "Save the Yak", trans-Himalayan Rally in which two of our members participated in three Mahindra Scorpios/ Getaways, will be shown.

The CIVAA will be organising an Independence Day Rally on Monday 15th August 2011, of the older cars and bikes.The reporting time is 9.00 am at Limbanna, Mount Road, Nagpur. The machines will be on display for viewing for one and all from 9 am till 10 am.
Thereafter, the rally will be flagged off at 10.00 am and the cars and bikes will traverse a predetermined route across the Orange City.

The Intra-Orange City CIVAA Independence Day run was successfully organised today morning.
Many members participated and two Volkswagen Beetles and one 1958 Royal Enfield Bullet made their debut in today's run in the CIVAA circuit.A few cars suffered break downs mid way. One Beetle developed an oil leak from the engine. My car's engine got overheated from time to time and the car needed to be rested for a while before the onward journey.

Thanks Manish. Its quite a good car but not roadworthy now.That will be done up and may be in future join us.
