As Rony said - there's always a 9 ready. If 9999 / 3499 / 8389 are taken, you can take 6839

Re: The Classic Drive Thread. (Mumbai)

Hi

The drive for tomorrow is very much on and as the VCCCI also wanted to hold a drive . I have clubbed both the initiatives and made one platform which will be the VCCCI Run.

We shall all meet at the Bandra side of the sea link just like before or even the other side is fine or whichever anyone pleases. So 8 am at the bandra side and then 8.10 am / 8.15 am at the worli side near the dairy as the road is broader.

Timing at 8am . Please be on time ( cant make it then do sms or mail back - everyone is not kept hanging in anticipation ) 9702043900 thats my number for records.

Head in nice convoy / drive - a safe distance between cars please traffic rules to be followed and head to Nariman point we will then complete the run to a place. ( still finding an ideal one both parking and all of us to be accommodated with obviously yummy food !) . I shall keep everyone posted by the end of the day or last not least last times venue Woodside inn.

Temperature forecast : 22 to 23 degrees during that time so lovely weather for a drive if we all meet on time that is : )

Please do pass on the word and see you guys tomorrow.

Best Wishes

Re: The Classic Drive Thread. (Mumbai)

I saw these cars today on the road and never thought I'd say this but when I saw them among the mundane cars of today, my respect for these classics grew ten fold. Must say each of these cars were so clean and well maintained that I was left very impressed and suddenly have become a fan of classic cars. Wished there were many more to see today.

Wow the biggest drive yet! superb cars and even better owners the enthusiasm spread through the streets of Mumbai as many a Mumbaite were surprised to see so many beauties roll out onto the streets and do their jig. Definately up with the impromptu flash dances that we see happening in the city nowadays.Three cheers to all my fellow drivers.

Re: The Classic Drive Thread. (Mumbai)

Had a fantastic drive guys !! Superb turnout, great variety, and awesome cars
You should have seen the eyeballs pop all through the route, and at traffic signals !! Almost like an impromptu rally - with fantastic weather to boot.

The Kingsway convertible is too good - thanks for the lovely pics of her, Santaji. So was the Chevrolet truck. And Harit's beautiful Sunbeam. And the Lancia Flaminia Zagato absolutely took the cake !!

I can go on and on -So many beauties, I got a sprained neck from looking here and there !!

Re: The Classic Drive Thread. (Mumbai)

I wanted to put up a few pictures which I took during the drive.
I was very impressed with a new arrival, the Chevy Pick-up. The guy could not wait for the regular rally to introduce his car. See the pics.
Such pick-ups are relatively rare in India, though there are two Fords with V-8 engines lying in and around Mumbai waiting to be restored.

We lined up at the Bandra end of the sealink, others came near Worli Dairy. After crossing the bridge we stopped near the Dairy, crowding the area. But we soon set of into town. Traffic was light, weather was cool, so wonderful. Only we did not where we were headed, Nariman Point was not visited. The leader of the pack drove around in circles and then led us to Woodhouse Inn, his ears must have been ringing from the number of calls he received asking for directions.
After going up, down and again up, we finally settled down for refrehments and breakfast. The orders took too long in coming, upto an hour but finally we were done and dispersed.
Cars were parked along the road opposite to Regal cinema and the street scene was quite period, made a nice picture. Some pictures I took through the Woodside Inn window.
Some of us were surprised to see sudden VCCCI involvement, no one I asked had received a message from VCCCI for "their" event, VCCCI was present with some cars and personalities, but not in organisation of the event. We did get a scare though when some understood that VCCCI footed the bill, eventually each table had a host who graciously cleared for a particular table. Thanks to them.
Next time we have a drive, we should do a few things differently. We should assemble at a larger and secluded (on a Sunday/holiday) place like Sealing Bandra end or maybe better still at BKC, and we should inform all the route in advance. That way no calls will come asking directions and no one needs to break/jump signals. Also, perhaps the food place can be fixed in advance and they be informed so that they are ready for all us. I expect even more participation at the next city drive.
I am looking forward to the next event, whoever organises it.

Cheers harit
