Very doubtful whether any Horsch still exists in India. One went to Australia for sure, the others?
About 25 years ago a pair of Horsch headlights came to Chorbazar, one glass was cracked.
That is all I know so far, according to DKG there was one in Pune too.

Vintage Movie - Dussera 1933 Blessing Cars

Attached are a few screen shots of the 1933 Dussera celebrations.

The first car, I cannot even start to guess! The second looks like PI 4-RC and the third looks like the Hispano-Suiza.

I believe the car was with the Dhanrajgir family, not sure. Used to be parked at their house I'm told.

The late great Aderbad Setna had mentioned to me a couple of times that a Parsi doctor in Pune used to drive a Horch. Not sure if it was the same car or another.

The Hyderabad Horch was not with the Dhanrajgirs but with the Asman Jah Paigah family.

I don't have the pics saved but I can look and will try to post soon.

These cars were on display during this year's Dasara celebrations in the Mysore palace.

The first on is a 1931 Chevrolet Tourer and second one is a Daimler Straight 8 DE 36.

Re: "Doing a Mysore" again - Cars of Maharaja of Mysore

Mr. Ramanna has been kind enough to have sent me the following link on the Hooper bodied cars - Hooper Coach Builders

From the list down loaded we could see the following cars of Mysore

1. Silver Wraith Touring Limousine (Body # 9399, Chassis # WVA 56)
2. Sedanca Coupe (Body # 9272)
3. Saloon on Bentley 6 chassis (Body # 9566 Chassis# B294 EY)
4. Silver Wraith (Body # 9506, Chassis WGC 31)

The Daimler DE-36's are listed under Royal Tours

Have these cars been identified earlier? If I recollect WGC 31 has a MSC registration and was post by DKG in the RR Tread

Cheers

KPS

A bit of Mysore Nostalgia

Here is something nostalgic, especially for namma KPS

The following are from The Autocar, June 11, 1937.

Interesting to note the "pecking order" of Mysore Palace chauffeurs and their cars. The 66 cars were maintained and driven by 44 chauffeurs according to the article.....I have not counted them!!!

I assume once you proved your mettle, you graduated /progressed from the luggage bus /milk van to the Rolls Royce and Hispano Suiza

The numbers after the cars I assume referred to "Mysore-XX" on the licence plate

Now we also know what the "mystery Dassara car" I had previously shown on post 32 is:

Name: Mysore Electric Car.jpg
Views: 923
Size: 299.5 KB

Note that R-R Silver Ghost (Chassis 1683) then had domed front wings /mudguards.

Travancore you made my morning cup of coffee even better. What an interesting article. Just loved your post and thank you very much for sharing. Enjoyed the names like "Thindi Ford (34)", where Thindi means snacks or food stuff indicating that this car was used to bring thindi . No. 54 Ford Pooja Saloon could be the car used to go to the temple.......

I was wondering what the names would imply. I'm more curious though to know what an Austin Victoria (Nazi) would be! Or perhaps a Dodge Graham Wireless. Also did you notice there are 3 electric cars? No. 15, No. 46 and No. 9.

Syed Budan - since he is driving the R-R Victoria! Just kidding

Glad you guys enjoyed this, I got a kick out of it.

Should have been born 50 years earlier in Mysore...........

Maybe the next list (unpublished) was even more interesting, with Halwa Mercedes, Uppuma Bentley and Masala Dosa Bugatti Royale

Re: "Doing a Mysore" again - Cars of Maharaja of Mysore

The Mysore Royal Garage was located a short distance away from the palace and was a very elegant building, with elaborate crests, barge boards and monkey tops, which bore the insignia of the Maharaja. Sadly, around 2002-03, it was demolished and taken over by builders, who built the usual featureless flats. I searched high and low for the remnants of the decorations, hoping to preserve them, but could not find anything. Would anyone have pictures of the building? Mr. T.P. Issar's book, Mysore, City of Palaces, has a picture, but thats all that I have been able to find. For a number of years, the building was rented out to the TVS group, who used it as a garage for their work.
