Um, one thing I didnt get though- from what I see, the ENTIRE chassis has been wrapped up with the sheet..so if you're going to bolt the body on, isnt the sheet coming in the way of the mounting holes in the chassis? And when you pull it off with the body BOLTED SECURELY, arent there chances of it not coming off fully and getting partly stuck/wedged between body and chassis (considering there wont be enough gap between the body and chassis to pull out such a length of sheet)?

Well in that case the sheet will act as a isolator , dampening some unwanted vibrations.

@Pawan: may be today we can meet. I will give you a call, once i am there. I also need some suggestion from you.

Hi Pawan,

I have been watching this thread and closely monitoring your association with the "mouse". I must say that your level of workmanship and detailing skills are of very high standards. Your experience is evident and this car is going to be coming out very well, eventually.

Wish you all the best with the restoration.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

The Chassis restoration and the Body restoration seperately seems to have been paid off

The kind of stance this car is got right now is just amazing.

It just looks FIT as a FIDDLE right now

Wow.... I cant get more happier.

Fittings have started right now, but Rain put a halt on completion. Hopefully tomorrow the rest of the body parts will come together.

Pavan saar- again, I hope you do something to protect those precious BROAD WHITEWALL tyres, saar!!!

They are getting more and more dishevelled and grimy...atleast use some worn-out fiat tyres temporarily until the car's fully done!

Those tyres have been in Stored Really well for a long time, They are FRESH as they should be. Its looking dirty only because of rains.......

Dont worry, I am taking care of the tyres. Its actually like i OWN the car more than Joy

Actually i intend to put these tyres ON the car for some more time since we are planning the Road Test sometime soon.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

So we are almost done fitting the FRESH BODY on to the FRESH CHASSIS

The mouse has suddenly transformed

I remember seeing this car as a puny little Mickey Mouse, but today i see it, He looks MEAN and much FITTER.

I am just waiting for few things to complete the paint, but there are few things that needs to be done before that

1) Complete the FRONT RIGHT Brake Unit
This is almost done, i am just waiting to find ONE matching pipe, my mechanic says PETROL WILLYS Brake pipe will Suit the specification. So need HELP

2) The DOOR hinges needs to be threaded.
Very peculiar design, the Door hinges is a self tightening type, so the hinges has the threads, well, right now the RIGHT side door hinge threads have gone bad, need to get it done, maybe i will carry the door in my car to the Lathe and get it done by Tuesday.

3) ENGINE -- Mechanic sir has to show a little mercy on me soon.
I have seen the engine, its READY, but somehow my mechanic is not granting me the permission to test it. He says," I still have some work to do sir, dont disturb me " Last week when i visited him, he was working on the VALVES, 2 hours he spent only grinding INLET Valves.... Unable to hold my patience, i returned. looks like i need to wait for another week.

4) Import some MOST REQUIRED SPARES from ITALY
For this i need to wait for Mr Joy..... Long time since i've met Captian....

What a transformation from rat to mouse. Its surely looking tempting. Do save it from the claws of the cats. The stance looks good. I sincerely wish that all the issues related to brake system get sorted out soon.

BTW nice to see your yukon yellow beetle under the wraps in the background. Please unveil it soon.

Well, all i am doing since the last few days is Putting back the JIGSAW Puzzle....

Its too tough to replicate and put things back where they belong to originally.

Similar thing happened with the engine too, the Studs for this particular engine are not available, my mechanic has fabricated them at the lathe and now the head is fitted to the engine block the way it should be.

Things pending on the engine is:

1) Dynamo clamp and cover
2) Studs for the radiator inlet at the engine block.

Some work happening over the past week.

Engine Head related issues

This Sunday, i met with the mechanic to take stock of the Engine head issue.

There has been a major breakthrough as of now, the Head is looking like a Million bucks . But the previous mechanic had screwed up with the engine block STUDS....

The engine Studs are 8 size and is IMPOSSIBLE to get, so the mechanic is fabricating all 9 Studs on the block, Re-Threading all the spoilt threads. He's through with the engine Studs right now, but again has hit a road block with the rocker arm studs... again 4 of them rendered useless.

Dropped him to the lathe and returned home, Hopefully by tomorrow the Rocker arm studs would be ready.

Another breakthrough was, the mechanic found the engine fan actually being mounted in the WRONG DIRECTION Instead of blowing air into the Radiator, it has been functioning the opposite way...LOL

Again, he's redesigning the fan mounting clamps.....

Regarding the brakes, he's got all the brake pipes ready and will mount them once the car reaches his place, which will happen by weekend.

I still need to get the tool box fabricated by the tinker...

Need to re-do / Replicate the entire muffler assembly....

Re: Engine Head related issues

Had forgotten the front air flaps all this while...

There are lot of small and tiny things that needs to be tinkered with, have given the tinker a deadline to finish them by the coming weekend.

1) Tool box at the rear ( measurements taken from the donor car)
2) Air flaps to be perfectly operational. (Lifted off the donor car)
3) Door locks and door setting
4) Bolt on the remaining 6 bolts between the Chassis and body.

Putting back the Jigsaw Puzzle

Small amounts of work but Most important things are getting done at a steady pace.

Actually we are putting back the car together right now-COMPLETE.

The ORIGINAL Steering column and the Steering Wheel is screwed up beyond Repair...

It is going to take up a lot of time and energy in restoring them, God save me.

Mechanic GURU at work.

After a long time the mechanic calls me early morning 7 am.

" Saar, head full ready........"

Jumped from my bed and rushed to his place, I could see, i could see finally all studs in place, new bolts, newly done HEAD, faced and polished, newly polished valves in place, new valve guides, newly grooved valve seats...

And luckily he found the matching Brake hose too... Wow. This was too much.

I took him to the car so that he can take measurements of the centre pipe for the same.

Work done and next week the car will go to his place, mount the engine, adjust the brakes, adjust the clutch, and to complete the test drive.
