Sir, with more than due respect to MRY 3112, I for one somehow never felt colours like white, cream etc. really gel with classic/old gen. cars for some reason. I always felt they looked better in more 'colourful' colours. In the same context, I feel glad that the PO of my herald decided to change the colour from the original white to RED 20+ years ago! Atleast it suits ME to the fullest!

I had infact sent the chassis and engine numbers to Topolino Casagrande- SWITZERLAND, and got the color code for this particular car. Infact while we were scraping the existing paint, we found traces of Blue/Green.

I got this color code matched with STANDOX and infact the color of the car will be Blue (which infact looks like Green) a very peculiar color, but an ORIGINAL SHADE for this particular Topolino. The contrast color is BEIGE.
Phew! Thats one relief saar!

Yes the mouse would look fab in this colour. BUT......if I might ask, pray whats this "contrast colour"?? You planning a two-tone, as on the Hillman?

Oh, and glad the long-suffering WW tyres are finally getting their well-deserved protection!

Shyam,

Not a two tone finish, Hillman was something else, i myself was pleasently surprised by the way it came out.

And i hope you were not dissapointed too with Hillman being white..

Most of the Topolino's always came with 2 colours.

The whole body was in one single color, but the wheels, Steering rod, Steering wheel, Dash board panel had contrasting shades.

The True color of the car is as per the pic below.

And this is THE ORIGINAL COLOR of this particular car

Yes Kasli bhai, Thats the perfect color

2 years of restoration , 1 week of paint preperation , it all had to come to this particular day to get the car deserve its first coat of paint.

Had to cut short office work and straight headed to the workshop today.

1) Weather Check - A good 28 Degrees (Hot n Humid)
2) Paint check - Standox 1.5 ltrs (The Best of paints, but Worst in terms of smogging and pungent )
3) Painter - Was finally ready to paint this car in a long time.

Nice nice, finally the day came when mouse got its first coat of paint which will last longer than anything. If this is the first coat then am eagerly waiting for the final outcome. Great choice of color.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

I meant low on Humidity, sorry for the typo error.

Most of the painters dont understand the basic concept of Base-Coat before the Final paint. But yes, the base coat decides the final outcome. The last pic shows the difference between two panels where different base-coats were used

There are few panels that are not painted on the car when you guys are taking a look at the pics. Those pantels will be rexine cladded or those panels will get the anti-rust coating and hence cant afford to have a smooth finish there.

One more thing to understand about STANDOX paints.

1) Fantastic paints, No doubt gives the best finishes on the body surface.
2) Expensive paints , 3 times than Dupont.
3) But the paint emits too much of pungent smoke making it almost impossible for the painter or people around to breathe freely.
4) Need to wear protective gear while painting

Final outcome will take some more time Sagar, there are lots of small parts that gets a different shade.

BLUE:
1) Tail-gate
2) Bonnet
3) Front bumper
4) Front grille
5) Side pair of air-vents
6) Wheel rim inner diameter

BROWN:
1) Steering column
2) Inside Rear View Mirror
3) Outer lip of wheel rims
4) Meter panel of dash-board
5) Accelerator/Clutch + Brake pedals

BEIGE:
1) Steering wheel
2) Roof clamps
3) Few small panels

And certain parts which also needs anti-rust treatment

I still have a good months job to finally finish the car and another 2 - 3 weeks to detail it.

Dont want to rush anything after this stage

For some reason, I had not been following this thread for some time.

Frankly, Pavan, my jaws had not dropped this much in the recent past.
The finish is amazing. How long have you been using STANDOX? Brilliant!

Will read up and pick your brains later.

Sir,

You can rake my brains anytime you feel like.

This is my First experience with STANDOX paints.

It smokey , Too pungent, you cant stand without a mask when the car is getting painted, It needs to be sprayed with too much of precision, It takes more than 3 days to dry up and a minimum of 1 month before you can apply rubbing and polishing, More over its TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE

But at the end of everything....Standox paints are infact "THE BEST".

One Word - AMAZING!!

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Today the workshop guys started fitting the accessories and other stuff.

Its been 3 days today, and the paint has not yet dried, this means the fitting job will not happen today.

The bonnet was sprayed today.

The meter console had an extra hole which i got welded today.
