If i am not wrong, this restoration has taken close to Two Years, what are the timelines you have fixed for the completion ?

Once finished, this would be a Head turner for sure.
Thanks Sanjeev.

Off-late work at office has been too hectic to actually finish the car.

Setting timelines will never help during restorations, thats what i've learnt over these years.

This car has taken 2 years, but i had no other options since the engine head was a big trouble maker, importing one would cost close to a lac of rupees considering the Duty and Shipping charges being really really high from Switzerland / Italy.

Now since the car is reached here, i will be taking time out the coming week to detail it and show it to few people that this paint job is indeed the BEST.

If at all i find that elusive TIME at hand, I can complete this project in the next 10 days.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Not much to update.

1) Fenders removed
2) The wheel arches are being cleaned
3) Will spray 3M Anti-rust on those areas, before re-fitting it back.
4) Tomorrow the whole car will be wet-sanded
5) Waiting for the upholstery guy to come over and start work on the roof and seats

Did anyone notice the SPANKING NEW ENGINE smiling under the hood

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Some more work continuing on the car.

Bunked office as the upholsterer gave an appointment to see the car today.

Measurements taken for the Canvas roof. Various shade combinations being checked for the nearest match. Will be taking all the samples to Joy for him to decide on the final shade.

Planning to take it home in the next few days, Just want to finish all the tiny pending work ASAP

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

The upholstery combo is something on the below lines.

Need suggestions guy..

1) Khaki Canvas Convertible roof
2) Beige Faux leather seats OR do i go with Fabric????
3) Beige , brown mix carpeting as pics attached
4) Should i use a Dark Brown Piping OR Should i avoid and go for same Beige color piping

Met Joy, He's more confused about the combo than me

Fabric corduroy from the local cloth shop - Lt Brown with brown ( cadbury ) piping. And get the carpet to similar match it

Black top ( not khakicanvas will be very garish )

Pavan,

I agree with Kasli. The pics of the car that you have shown for an idea looks really nice.

I would also not go for a khaki top black or even grey would be better. Corduroy in a dull beige/khaki (but cotton only, avoid the shinier variety). And carpets again dull beige/khaki with brown piping. I think this combo would be a winner.

Regards
Prithvi

You know prithvi, It becomes even more difficult by the day to zero in on one combination.

But i would go with you guys on the materials to be used.

Since today being a Mahashiv-rathri, its a holiday and i have a little more time to experiment.

Have a Black canvas lying around with me, will put the pics in a while

Also found this interesting Engine testing video. I am glad, my mech did the same, but with the engine on the car.

Pavanji,

I know exactly what you mean about the combination part. If you go through my thread covering my '58 Merc Ponton, right from the start I have been flip-flopping about the exterior paint only, forget the interiors! I thought of a 2 tone, then after Karl's advice against it I gave that up (for the better), then green, then blue then medium red and then by consensus, finally black.

What I do know is that the PVC canvas top will be black, the sliding roof and remaining inner headliner ivory and the upholstery mainly light tan, with a few places (not the seats) tan. Carpets will be brown with darker brown piping.

Problem is, that it's still a long way of till the car's ready, which gives me a lot of time to change my mind again

It's a good thing to go through the engine videos on Youtube, they're really helpful. I compare overhauled engine vids of both my car's 4 cyl engine and the 220S 6 cyl engine of my friend's from time to time.

Regards
Prithvi

Tried the BLACK canvas.

Sorry for the terrible fit-n-finish, it was done by yours Truly

Somehow, not able to arrive at a conclusion

Good progress Pavan ji, i really like the way car's shaping up. The engine looks neat & fresh.
Regarding the canvas rag top, black looks nice, though how about a dark shade of brown.

Here are some pictures with black and grey tops. By the way the new fiat 500 seems to have a beige top.

Sagar,

Canvas are available only in few colors

1) Black
2) Green
3) Black
4) Military / camouflager as they call it.
5) Khaki

Choices are low, if you Dye them, they will turn dirty over some time, so i think i will keep it black.

Engine, Wait for few more days, I shall unveil the final pics very soon.
