re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Found some more writ-up about the topolino.

Some more panels were treated with Chocolate, as per the original combination.

Wiring started and should be completed in a few days.

Car getting a bit dusty and dirty, hoping to get it home very soon.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Pavan sir - Seeing how this has progressed I am obliged to validate some of my earlier comments about the paint quality. I did some study about paint-primer interaction, primer-metal interaction and how ambient temperature, pressure and humidity affect the paint quality. To beat the elements you need a controlled environment and most paint booths that deliver that level of service charge upwards of 2-3000 USD for a paint job. That is close to 1.5 Lakh rupees for a paint job.

I paid Rs.40,000 (800 USD) to get my Acura Integra resprayed in the US and the paint quality was below my expectations which is where I got into the whole analysis of painting defects.

I am no authority on the subject but from what little I know, given the resources available in India, This mouse has a top notch paint job with fine attention to detail. The effort taken has clearly shown through the layers of paint and clear and it looks FANTASTIC!

I am keen to see the interiors in place and the contrast between the chocolate, blue and the leather upholstery. Should be a very nice place to be for someone a lot smaller than me, and for that matter, Jeevan Anna. Does he fit in the car?

Gurugale..! Nothing taken personally. Dont worry

I take criticism very constructively. And have been striving hard to achieve excellence in whatever little i have been trying to do. And i know, i have a whole loads of knowledge to gain to get there.

Yes, the paint job is still not complete, you need to wait for the final compounding that will be done, once i get the car parked in my house for detailing.

Well about Jeevan anna fitting in, Hell NO.

I have fabricated/customised the seats in such a way that he gets fitted in. Upholstery is the last bit pending, will be completed in a few days time.

Those will happen on the next project.

Upholstery color is selected finally.

Found a pattern which looks a bit period and a little suttle too, selected and now need to wait for my upholstery guy to give me his valuable time to finish it ASAP

The convertible roof will be Black, with Beige lining seen from the inside.

The inner walls will get beige quadroi material stuck to it.

Well, the sad thing is, i will not be in a position to deliver this car on March 19th. The day most importantly being Joy's Birthday

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Well, an update for the sake of it

Car is coming along well, slowly and steadily.

48 hours for completing all the fittings. Just hoping to wrap up all the work on the car ASAP. Already feeling guilty of not completing delivery of car on the right day.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Antirust coating being done inside.

Also the Bitumen sheets are being layed.

After this, we are spraying the body colored enamel coating to give it a better look and finish...

The Fuel tank is being prepared for its black coat

The radiator grille is almost ready, This thing has too much of detailing to be done once painted, as the grille is the thing that Makes or Breaks the look of this very car.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Last Bits of work getting completed today. Well, my BIG list of ""THINGS TO DO"" has infact reduced by a BIG amount

Very surprisingly my painter has become a bit more generous with paint process, He painted the Fuel tank Matte black ( which i thought is what i wanted) when i had seen it in the morning, But, and by the time i saw it in the evening, He had spreayed a coat of clear..

Pending work:

1) Plonk in the Original Gear lever
2) Plonk in the Original Steering wheel after painting it
3) Rear Suspension Bush on the either side
4) Start and Complete the Upholstery
5) Finish the Electrical wiring - Now almost 80% complete
6) Get the Front Windshield fabricated and fitted
7) Fit the LHS door window glasses ( RHS DONE)
8) Paint the Air-Filter

All this i am sure, i will complete very soon. The car is headed home in the next 2 days, and i plan to finish the above at my home.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Pavan Anna..!! Happy to see the Car getting closer to finish line. And, above all a fantastic effort by you

You have painstakingly restored the car to a level, where it will be among one of the Finest restorations for you to remember, if i am not wrong.

This Restoration must have involved a staggering amount of money, didnt you face any budgetary constraints in this one ?

Anyways, keep up the Good Work, and we love to check out your threads.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Again, the reason for not finishing it by now - Office busy schedules.

But , have a long break untill 10th April, In my absence, nothing much happened, but my TO DO LIST has come down by a considerable amount.

WORK DONE
1) Folding roof mechanism 100% ready
2) Roof-lining ready and will be on the car in 2 days time
3) Electrical wiring ready to be laid and connect
4) Carpeting cut and ready
5) Window glass and beadings 50% done, RHS Pending
6) Fuel tank ready and fitted
7) Copper Fuel lines ready
8) Headlights fitted
9) Front Grille aligned and fitted
10) Grille lock and catcher fabricated and working fine
11) All switches ready and fitted on the dash
12) Side running boards fitted, waiting for the rubber mat

TO DO LIST
1) Search for Front grille aluminium beadings
2) Rear leaf spring bushes
3) Front windshield
4) Door pads
5) Seats

Well, the windshield was ready, Toughned glass, but at the last moment, some freak mishap, the glass cracked, need to order one ASAP

The fabricated seats are almost ready, But the upholstery guys prefer to do it later as it involves lots and lots of work. But they have agreed to finish the Roof and the carpeting in the next 48 hours.

SORRY FOR THE HAZY PICS, IT STARTED TO DRIZZLE

The car in the background appears to be the W108 from Goa, are you going to restore that?
You will have to hunt for the trim and the rubbers, probably import them. And since you mention a drizzle, why are all the windows rolled down?

Cheers harit

Sir, thats a 1969 W114, Its right now stripped and yes, i am restoring it.

One off-topic pic only for you.

BTW, coming back to the topic, the Topolino finally got its roof lining, its carpets
and side panels. I am really on the moon with this guy's workmanship

The door pads and the seats will happen in the coming days.

The roof lining job is done very professionally, like the color combo used on it. More than the exterior it looks classy from the inside.
Also that period shade carpet is fitted to perfection, i guess its a fabricated piece (carpet) and not a readymade stuff.
BTW whats the update on the front windshield.

PS: Nice to see one more resto project of yours, the Merc W114.
