EXTREME.

I had used this words to my painting team . " EXTREMELY CLEAN CHASSIS chahiye "

They tell me today, EXTREMELY CLEAN hogayaa sir

I am amazed, by their scrubbing. They are doing a great job, almost all the dirt and the rusting is now gone, the inner metal is now visible. we have again soaked the chassis in diesel today, which eventually will be pressure washed to get a SPIC n SPAN Chassis for applying the antirust.

The body tapping guy is working continously to finish the body beating work, doing it the second and final time. ONLY to reduce the useage of Body filler on the body shell.

The earlier tinker had made the side fenders as a Nut and Bolt fitting, rendering useage of 2 people while removal and refitting of the fenders, but i made this welder to weld all the nuts to the body shell and the fitting needs only 1 person to remove and refit the Bolts.

Going in the right direction, hope and wish this continues this way.

There are parts of a topolino chassis lying in a junk yard here in pune. Check one of the snaps posted by priyadarshan.
Its cropped but looks in good nick. Maybe you could use it?

Yes kevin, you have a very keen eyes, i saw them, i have infact sent a pm to priyadarshan to source that cut chassis for me.

Continuing from whats happening since yesterday, we are still scrubbing, scrubbing , and scrubbing. Since we are doing the antirust on the Chassis, we even intend to finish the underbody of the body shell, so once in for all, we will complete the bottom part of the car and fit them back.

Pavan ji the progress on the chassis is very commendable. Haven't seen such detailed work being performed on a chassis till date. It seems you that the workshop guys have fully understood the quality of work you require from them.
BTW the idea to procure the cut chassis is very good. Will definitely help you in restoration of the donor 500. Hope you pick up the engine mounted on it too.

Well, i have got in touch with priyadarshan for that engine/rims and the chassis, let me see how my luck goes

The chassis and body is completely cleaned and ready for its treatment.

I am only waiting for Joy (Car owner) aka AirBusDriver to have a final look and give me further directions.

Good to see the chassis restored- have you used only red oxide primer btw? 'would've been better to do it up in zinc primer first?

But more importantly- good to see you finally got the OHH REE GEE NAL rims and precious whitewalls off!

Are you using 3M for the antirust on this chassis too?

I have used red-oxide primer since, the chassis was badly corroded, we are going to sand it down tomorrow, and apply 2 coats of Etching primer (Zinc primer) and again allow it to dry for a day.

Once its dried up well, i plan to use Wurth antirust coating for the chassis frame. Each of the brake plates, the diffrential and brake pipes will be painted as per factory specifications

Actually, this weekend the complete underbody of the body frame and the chassis will be 100% completed.

Since, all the 4 cars of 2010 are completed and delivered, i am left with only 3 cars for this year, so finishing each car in phases

Pavan.....thsi car will come back to haunt you! There is still too much rust on the chassis and if not taken care of its gonna get bad in no time.

Suggest you look at media blasting options

basically yes ...media covers all types of blasting sand, bead etc whichever is suitable ...whatever media is used to blast the object doesn't necessarily have to be only sand

Can you point out exactly where the rust is still there. In the pics the Chassis looks clean.

I Got your valid point Wasif bhai, perfectly as per

But, if you can closely inspect any Topolino Chassis, the thickness is really really thin

Sand blasting would surely take off those precious "microns" Which i am sincerely afraid to do.

Correctly said, i have got it hand sanded, gone down to bare metal surface that is possible.

The treatment from now on is extensive and expensive.

1) The first coat of Red-Oxide (Primer) is from 3M.
2) Leave it to dry for 2 days, check on rust spots, sand it down again.
3) The second coat will be Standox Etching primer (Red)
4) Leave it to dry for 2 days. Check for rust spots and apply primer again.
5) Wurth Antirust coating (Rubber based) 3 good coats.

I feel with the above process, the Chassis will stay strong and rust proof for the rest of its life.

Kindly correct me if i am wrong.
