Agreed, the set-up we have is not Professional enough, but end result is what matters at the end of the day. I know how much passion my painter has towards the cars i restore, he gives his BEST everytime, Though his estimate has remained same from the day the work on the car has started, he's put in more hours of labour and precision in getting me the desired results needed. Yet un-demanding

Till today he's personally working on the car, which usually is the helpers job. And he re-does work which he feels is not right without even complaining about excess work. Though i will not have seen any flaw.

My trouble right now is.

1) Completing the Jig-saw puzzle on the fittings that go on the car.
2) Research for the correct way of completing things without deviating from the Original
3) Get everything RIGHT right now than re-do things later.

Phew... i am already exhausted

I hope you did'nt get me wrong as my question may have been ambiguous. Your painter is doing a fantastic job and full marks to him for his true dedicated work which is there for all to see. My question was simply to see how I can attempt to duplicate his work here, which is why I asked about the compressor and air pressure.

I know that most painters here operate by feel for air pressure and not preset air pressure according to the meter. HVLP spray guns generally suggest 2hp motors - I believe they prefer 5 in the west - and around 60 psi air pressure . What I would like to know is if we can get by with a 1 hp, which I currently have or if an upgrade is necessary to work with HVLP.

Must also add that your painter moved to a very high level of competence because of the motivation, technical inputs and the urge to move to a higher plane of quality by you. You nurtured him well and he improved as he was willing to experiment and learn from you. Very rare qualities coming together.

I see nothing wrong in your approach to painting in the open - given the slightly toxic nature of the paints. The only problem would be dust settling which is taken off and solved with the fine cut you give. Very appropriate solution. If someone asks me, I would say that you match the best, with the lowest investment in tools and infrastructure. I am your keen student as I am sure many, in and out of TBHP, are.

Had a little free time today morning, so i decided to do a little fitting myself

Though my tinker is good, but this i wanted to DIY.

And.. Yes. Even the Air-Filter is a DIY

I know its a bit crude right now, but just wait untill its done.

Great going there, I am loving the finish . Jsut wanted to tell you do not use the Ignition coil with Ballast resitor and the carbon Ignition wires. For this and our fiats the normal coil with copper wires work the best. Dr. Dhabar has in past explained about this.

I think you will say its only a stop gap measure for trial run cause you got the original Ignition coil with you. In that case just check the resistance of those coils (both primary and secondry) to see if they are good to go.

The Fuel tank, Front Grille, Engine block and other small bits are being worked upon. We are painting it with Black.

Illa anna, nothing of that sort.

The Chocolate brown shade is the Period Color for these fitment, hence spraying them.

Lot of work being done on the car today, but sadly i am out of town to moniter and post them today.

Manish sir, thanks for your compliments with the color. While the car is still in its Nascent stages, just waiting for other things around the car to get finished so that i can go for the final kill.

Firstly, the points and condenser pack for this car is way too expensive at INR 3800.00 after import. And more than wish , my mech has a valid reason which i respect and honour.

Secondly, with the Ballistic Resistor, the points are saved for a longer period of time, i too had my apprehensions before, but its been 5 years since my VW Bus has got a points and condenser pack changed Which usually packs off within 5000 kms

There has been lot of demands with downing the engine to paint the engine bay, but if one understands the difficulties we faced with the engine, Clutch set-up, i would dread do that after the engine has nicely set-in.

For practicality, reliability and my mechanics advice, i would keep the Ballistic Resistor, and go by his advice BLINDLY when it comes to this car. He's the guy who's made the whole project worthwhile by finding a way with the engine, so i would not like to change the present settings even an inch.

You know buddy, time flies, sometimes its good to see what i had been upto when i started the project, i will post some more interesting pics as this thread progresses

Sent the car pics to the lady who has been like a guiding angel throughout the project. Ezio Casagrande from Topolino parts -Switzerland

She had been kind enough to send most of the cosmetic and a few mechanical spares and has been giving me valuable inputs regarding the Topolino. Will thank her again once the project completes Here's her reply.

If i am not wrong, this restoration has taken close to Two Years, what are the timelines you have fixed for the completion ?

Once finished, this would be a Head turner for sure.
