re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

The car is yet to be completed, hopefully Tuesday night it should be done.

Nevertheless, its running on its own which is a good thing.

Drove the Topolino 23 kms, now its here where it will get some "Magic Treatment"

Keep watching at this space.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

What a lovely little car.
My heart is bleeding as my late father bought a 1954 Topolino in Italy in 1988.
We used to have a lot of fun with that car - it was dark blue with black folding top.
It is a reminder of a time when power was not yet as important as today.
You truly don't have to go with 150 km/h to enjoy the ride...

Hmmm...

Just wait a while i answer all your questions

What happened today

Sand down , Sand down , Sand down again, the painter did a thorough sand-down. We wanted to give just one more top-coat on the car and seal the paint with 2 coats of CLEAR.

Yes Srini, the car was taken to GT Tuners belongs to Mohnish ( T-BHPían memo_45m ) Have a pact with him from now on, any cars i paint will get its final coats of paint in his Hi-Tech Booth. He is charging me for that, which i feel is a nominal costs, but most importantly does not put up tantrums as the earlier paint booth guy ( Sathnur -Maruti A.S.C -Yelahanka ).

I am thankful to him and his team for allowing me and my painter a free hand at using his state of the art Facility.

Thanks Sagar.

With the kind of surface we had, the only thing needed was ONE final coat of Paint and 3 Coats of Clear to Seal the Paint. The procedure involved was

1) Sand down with 1500 grit paper
2) Clean the car, check for any blemishes
3) Sand down once again with 1500 grit, but use the rubber/wooden palm block to get that even sand down finish
4) Clean the car, by now, the surface should have had lost some 3/5 microns of paint.
5) Sand down with 2000 grit paper, Twice

All the above steps would be more than sufficient to get that Perfect surface.

6) Dust the car and dry it to room temperature
7) Degrease the car
8) Spray the Final coats of paint ( 2 coats sufficient )
9) Spray the Clear coat (3 coats ) I usually use slow dry clear.
10) Bake the car in the booth @ 60 Degrees and let it dry ovenight.

Hi folks, Pavan is a wonderful and humble person to work with, the best part I like about him is he is always open to ideas and development. What I have noticed is he takes his time and puts his heart into his work very dedicated. I am not a Classic car restorer but there are some values he carries that are really appreciated in him.

Beginning a Mutual Admiration society eh

Mohnish, we Automobile Freaks are one of a kind.

I sincerely hope my association with GT Tuners go a long way, This has indeed helped me to take my restoration process leagues ahead. Thanks again Mohnish.

Mechanic replaced the ordinary water with Coolant and distilled water. Tuned the car and was driven off from GT Tuners to my painters place 23 kms away. It was a funny sight the way my mechanic drove

You wont believe i have started the process of convincing my Mom, and Wifee, that when we are back to India, instead of going for a new car, we will go for a Classic. And all this day dreaming thanks to Pavan Anna..
