WOW, This is a great mascot, so much history to it.

This envelope below bears a special cancellation, it says
Mannheim, birthplace of the Automobile
125 Years Carl Benz Automobile

A different kind of Memorabilia.

I remember 'Ram' mentioning that HindusTHan was the classical 'pure' Hindi pronunciation, while HindusTan was an Urdu-ised one. But looks like HM initially used the first spelling then in later years changed to the latter. Why is anyone's guess.

Very rare and excellent collection awini !
Like wasif says, I too would suggest you to post each component in a separate picture preferably with a label / caption depicting what part and to which car make it pertains to, for a much better appreciation by us all.

Re: Vintage Related Memorabilia

Today I got a magazine called The States & Zamindaries, see the cover page below. In this mag they have an ad for the Austin dealer and for Duco paints. Duco paints seem to be going back a long way.
Have a look and comment, also our friends from Hyderabad.

Cheers harit

Harit ji Thats one rare find, I would love to know more on the list of Zamindars of UP state. I belong to one of the Taluqdar family hence the interest.

Well I have sent, and you have liked

Another oddity I came across is a magazine called "Rajput", it is of 1911, published in London and in very good condition. Contents are seen on the front page seen below.

I would not have got this except for the ad on the second page. I always wondered how obscure marques came into India, many cars seen apparently did not have specific dealerships. It seems that traders also imported cars, these were thoroughly tested before being brought in.

I discussed this mag with a Rajput and he was amazed as he had never heard of this magazine.

Cheers harit

Re: Vintage Related Memorabilia

I recently saw this postcard showing a Volga(?), location mentioned as Feb 2008, Delhi. Has anyone seen this car before?

No, I don't remember this car. But there were plenty plenty of Volga's in India, as well as Moskvitch, Lada's, then those vans. The Russians had a huge diplomatic corps in India. Later they also started using Japanese cars for their normal emplyees, the bosses used mercs, Impalas etc. Now the survivors are rare, though there is a dieselised Volga still in Mumbai.

Re: Vintage Related Memorabilia

Packards are not easily available any more, as we find. But occasionally Packard parts do come up, like this mascot. For which year is this suitable, pre-war or post-war?

Pre 1937 or so had the mascot mounted on top of a radiator cap, this is mounted mid section of the bonnet.
