Oflate Pedal cars are gaining lot of popularity with collectors & Vintage / classic enthusiasts. I thought it would be appropriate to start a new thread on the same so that we can get a glimpse into some of these collections. To start with i am posting my VW Beetle - late 60's model - yellow pedal car - for everyone to see and comment. This is a complete metal body on a metal chassis with high quality bumpers and lights made up of plastic. It would be wonderful to see other Pedal cars too.

Here is some pedal cars at Jadhav gadh fort rally

Sweet thread !
Though I've shared this one before, I'll take the liberty again. This photo was taken sometime in the seventies..
"Mustang" was my first set of wheels. Pedal powered, with battery operated lights and a horn, and mechanical steering. Real tyres on the wheels. Chrome bumpers with over riders. And note the rear "tailfins" ! :)
Oooh, did I love her !!

@ SuperSelect, Love that Mustang! :)

This is another of these Austin pedal cars.
This has been jazzed up a bit and is mounted on a wall in a restaurant in a Mall in Mulund. They have connected lights for additional effect.
Now there are three of these on this thread.
Hope you like.

Please google Pedal Cars and you will get a lot of info and some sites.

Also, please note that there are older pedal cars mostly made of metal, and the newer ones are more plastic. These were also made in India, those made in the 1960's resembled Jeeps. Good luck to aquire.

Thankyou Harit Sir

I have found one resembling a Mustang with fin tail, no make is specified and the owner claims it to be Indian make and asking price is Rs 8,000

Cheers..

i used to have 2 of them

one was a little red car made of metal and had the legend 007 on the side.
the other was a green jeep again made of metal and was plain.

i vaguely remember tearing around the garden at what seemed to me to be rather high speeds in those things. The bungalow used to have a circular driveway which went right around the house and it was tarmac. So it must have been great fun to buzz around in those vehicles pretending to be like my Dad in his car/ jeep.

lovely things those cars - even the horn and lights used to work with batteries. and when the tyres wore out, I remember going to a shop somewhere in Coimbatore or Chalakudy or somewhere (this was 1973-1974) and my Dad managed to organize a set of spares.

Unfortunately I cannot find the photos pertaining to that period.
Both vehicles were in superb condition and stayed with us until 1980-1981 after which they were given away to the local creche for the less privileged children to use and play with.

those days there were none of these politically correct (US inspired) rules about safety aspects for childrens toys and so on. But nothing untoward ever happened to any of us who grew up with such toys in those years either!

Recently I came across some antique kids toy type vehicles in Ooty - there were a couple of little cars, one jeep and a couple of little pedal planes (biplanes - like the famous first world war Fokker and Sopwith Camel and Albatros etc) - all in terrible condition.

Only a serious enthusiast would buy them in this condition or one may possibly buy them only for the antique value or nostalgia value.

Old pedal cars are more collectable, they have a charm of their own and are decorative. The new ones are too exact copies of real cars!
Check these old pictures of old pedal cars. One has already been posted on the nostalgic thread.

Think posting this pic & comment will seem like :OT, but as there is no dedicated thread for "Tin Toy" machines & pedal propelled scaled machines & 82rawath also was asking about these pedal propelled cars, like the one posted below (the one posted here is a latest art of state "Polypropylene" pedal powered cars).
But what actually 82rawath was meaning a sheet metal made scale models like Lambretta, Herald & some American Guzzler models, which I do had one, when I was a kid - think it was a Lambretta SX type! :thumbs up

@ Hakkim: Yes, have seen one car & a Lamby @ two different places.

That Lamby was in pretty good shape & that car resembles some American car (needs some restoration (???) I suppose)

Have to dig out the pics from my system ... will try!

Thank you Sir for taking the effort to dig out the Pedal Car for me, please post pics of the Car and Lamby and we will decide from there on, I have sent you a PM with my details.

BTW, there is a thread in the Vintage and Classics in India, Pedal Cars.

Cheers ...

Has anyone seen Mr. Rishi Kumar's collection of pedal cars in Calcutta? He owns the place called the HObby Center down Park Street. He has 50 plus of these. I will try and dig some pictures later.
