Re: Images of Traffic Scenes From Yesteryears

look how beautiful the Haji Ali junction looks. A nice large circle in between...

And the Gateway, you could park the car right at it's footstep.

Thanks for the lovely pics Anjan ! Haji Ali circle looks awesome.

I remember, 15 years ago, the petrol pump at the corner used to have a red Fiat 600 parked, belonging to the owner.

I remember this roundabout too as a Kid. I wonder why they removed it. Morons! It used to have a little garden nursery in the centre too. We bought several shrubs and bushes from there.

@ravi, I remember that car too. Didnt he also have a nice Mercedes 115/116 or something??

If someone goes to dadar TT, there is a prominent store called Asian Stores. Go inside it and look at the picture mounted behind the cashier. It is an Arial shot of Dadar TT from the late 40s or early 50s. It looks Stunning!!

This is taken from Dev Chhaya, which was the tallest building in the area when it was built in 1967, its usp, all of 7 floors. I remember seeing this circle as a kid.

Just cant imagine what they have done to my city.

Another Gateway of India picture post card from the 1970's. Can see a Mark 3 in the forefront and a Padmini. But this one is not so well preserved!

I believe that is a Mustang in the picture too!! You can clearly see the iconic side vents. Look like a convertible or an early coupe.

Yes Cyrus that may be a later Mustang, a bit evolved compared to the original 1964 Pony car. Or is it an early model?

Its a convertible for sure. Looks like a 66-67 to me as it has the defined scoop on the side

Mark 3 or Mark 4?? Looks more like the latter to me. The front parking lights appear to be square.

Cyrus its for you to see here (if at all one can see as the picture resolution is dismal ) and then decide.

Shyam, the Ambassador is the Mark 3 as there is nothing below the front bumper and the headlight-bumper vertical distance matches with the Mark 3 and earlier models. The picture quality is quite bad. However it is fitted with a tinted plastic, translucent sunshade which were so popular in the 1970's.
I have also scanned the parking lot in the background, where even Landmasters (if any) and Ambassadors cannot be distinguished!

Hi Anjan Sir,

Thanks for uploading the pictures. Feels really nostalgic looking at them .Feels like reading a classic 1960's Readers Digest book.
