Nice vintage toy, I have similar ones. Do not do anything other than clean, maybe try to touch up just a little. The chrome parts should not be painted silver. In short, keep it as it is, just clean up a little. A full repaint will reduce its value.
This is not a scale model, when new it was just a toy.

These toys are a part of automobilia, thread could be merged.

Cheers harit

Maybe its not such a bad idea to have an exclusive thread for Vintage and classic scale models they tend to get lost in the scale model thread. I have about 50 odd vintage Matchbox Models of yesteryear cars, some of them still in original packing. I think I will post them on this thread.

Nice find Shreeram !! I too have some real old scale models in my collection. Would be great to have a separate thread for these.

Mods: Can we have a separate thread titled "Classic Scale Models" in the SAME section that has the "Scale Model thread" please ?

re: Vintage automotive toys

these tin toys evoke memories of a simpler time - when all this political correct-ness and health and safety etc did not exist.
i remember having a pedal car made of some metal with absolutely no botheration about rusting, sharp bits and pieces and a host of other stuff that mandatorily needs to be avoided today by toy manufacturers.
this is not to celebrate the lack of safety in some of those old toys but rather to celebrate a time when we could simply enjoy things without thinking too much.
thinking too much seems to have become the besetting sin in todays new world order!

re: Vintage automotive toys

shankar or so true. The best and most cheerished toys that I had were metal body cars that were almost 10" to 1' in lenght and had the friction mechanism with light coming through the friction wheel.

I used to then as a demolition engineer open them all up and none are left today. Went to look for similar toy cars in the market today to gift for my son, but now all we have are at best pull back scale models.

Yes those toys rusted and it is rare to see one of them in acceptable condition today, but yes those were the days.....

'61 Fintail Merc !!

Hey guys, I just managed to lay my hands on this beauty - a "tin toy" '61 fintail Mercedes.

Works on a single large battery, has a lever for forward and reverse.

She was lying at a relatives house, who was only too glad to give her to me. Apparently she's at least 40 years old !!

I now need Oh-Ree-G-Nal hubcaps.
