Re: Queries regarding a used VW Passat

If its a VW registered car its highly unlikely that they tampered with the odo reading. However the tires telling your otherwise seems to be a mystery. Check with a tire specialist.

There is a way to check how many miles a car has actually even if the odo has been tampered with however there is no way, that I know of, by which you can check if the car has been revved over a particular limit.

Tires seem fine according to a tire expert. ECU readout also indicated true mileage. Got the car.

Re: Queries regarding a used VW Passat

New Twist in the Tale

I had almost closed the deal on the 2012 (Mar-2012 manufacture) VW owned Passat driven 1400kms for 17L on road. I had made the full payment and awaiting tranfer of ownership before taking delivery of the car from Autobahn India Pvt Ltd (VW dealer).

On checking the car yesterday for some paperwork I noticed a lot of water logging in the boot below the spare wheel (almost 9-10 litres of water had collected). Car had been parked in the rain over the past 2 weeks. There is obviously some leakage in to the boot from above since the carpet covering the spare wheel was also wet/damp. If it wasn't for the rain I would never have discovered this problem.

Given this issue with the car I no longer wish to go ahead with the deal. I have asked them to stop all transfer paperwork, which luckily hadn't started yet. What are my legal options in getting a refund from them in case they are reluctant to do so.

Is this a minor issue I have read about some other VW cars like the vento and the jetta having the same issue which were rectified by some silicon gel sealant.

Any advise would be appreciated.

I would not give up, try replacing the boot seals, also check sunroof drain pipe, also muck might have accumulated in the drainage channels due to non use causing the water to end up in the boot

Any idea why did the original owner just drove 1400 in a year and is keen to sell it (for a rather low price). Hope the leaking was not the issue.

Re: Queries regarding a used VW Passat

Leak should be a minor fix and clogged drainage lines is my best bet. Vaise it is surprising to see a Passat leak so soon even if it was standing. Some others also complained about VW's rubber biddings. VW build quality seems to have some issues compared to its sister brands even though they are assembled on the same line.

Apparently

One snap of oval shaped rubber along with white rod for dickey was not in proper place which has now been placed properly. Also dickey rubber beeding is torn in 2 places and is being replaced which according to SA would solve the issue.

Congrats!
You were extremely lucky to have found a Passat with so low an odo reading. Waiting for your Initial Ownership thread now.

Re: Queries regarding a used VW Passat

Was looking at used petrol Superb's when I came across this Passat listed for sale. Its a 2012 model with 26k on the odo and has 2 years' extended warranty remaining. I think the color is oak brown, not very sure from the pics.

I'm yet to see the car,but thought i'll ask on the price to quote for this should we consider it. The owner is expecting 23L for this which I think is way too high. Just read mod ajmat's post on his friend picking up a year old Passat with 10k for 25L,so 23 for a 2 year old car with 26k on odo seems high. Considering it was a sales dud,i'm thinking 18-19L is a good price for both parties. What do you guys think ? Should I quote more or less

A True Blue Gem Of A Car, My Second-Hand 2009 VW Passat Highline DSG

Hello Fellow Teambhpians:

I have been a longtime lurker on this forum. I am also a proud teambhpian, flaunting my tbhp stickers and boasting about my membership at every opportunity. A month ago, I bought a used Passat, but did not write a review because I am intimidated by the high quality of reviews on this forum, but something happened yesterday that drove me to write this short note down. As briefly as I can, here's the story.

At the end of May, I almost bought a vento automatic. I say almost because at the very last moment, the dealership decided to sell the car elsewhere because it was the month's end, I was short of cheque leaves, and they had a target to meet. It was the only white automatic they had in stock and the next one would only come "months" later. Like a true-blue tbhpian, I was miserably morose. Taking pity on my stricken plight, my wife suggested I go second-hand to get my hands on a car instantly. I searched for used cars in the 8 to 15 lakh bracket, found a good looking Passat on team-bhp.com (!), test drove it, negotiated the price, and was the proud owner of an impeccably maintained 2009 diesel-powered Highline DSG Passat, with all bells and whistles. The following week, I also took it to the 3M Car Care center in my locality and blew a small fortune on the car!

To give you a bit of perspective, I upgraded from a 6-year-old Santro to this car!

The true realization of exactly how good I have it and how GOOD my car actually is came yesterday when I test drove two other used Passats. Why you ask? Well, inspired by my purchase, a dear friend of mine also decided to buy a used Passat, so being the resident Passat expert, we both went to check the two cars out. To keep it concise, the two cars we tested were so poorly maintained that we summarily rejected them without a second thought. One car, a 2008 comfortline model, had all beige interiors (yikes!), drove poorly with lots of jerks felt when the DSG changed gears, and the A/C came on only after 10 mins which the owner tried to convince me is normal with all Passats! The other car, a 2012 highline model, was just plain badly maintained, dents and scratches, not even properly wiped before it was shown to us, the poor car was admittedly driven by 3 others including the owner's driver. It was obvious that the car was roughly driven and badly abused.

These two incidents opened my eyes to the beauty I had bought purely by chance.

I plan to keep this car for a long, long time to come. It goes without saying any advice regarding the Passat's upkeep and maintenance, tips and tricks, and any pitfalls by knowledgeable tbhpians is gratefully appreciated.

The pictures taken at the 3M Car Care center follow. I am no photographer and these pictures were taken on my Nexus 5, so the usual disclaimer of "please excuse the quality" applies.

Hey Amit congrats on your purchase. She has definitely been kept well . It looks new and scratchless. In the snaps posted I cannot see a single dent or a scratch.

Hey Amit, your car looks extremely well maintained. Personally I prefer the previous generation design with the aggressive front than the current one. Mind sharing the no. Of kilometers this beast has on the odo and for how much you acquired it?
Wishing you endless niggle free miles with your new acquisition.
Drive safe

That's one of the well maintained example. Congrats on the purchase. Do post some interior snaps.

BTW do you mind sharing the price?
