I discussed with few people in FCA and they confirmed that BS4 engine can run with BS6 fuel. Will it have any impact in the long run?! This I am not sure.

NCR region is already using BS6 fuel in BS4 vehicles. So maybe folks there can share some insights.

So as per the Fin Minister's press conference:

BS IV vehicles purchased till March, 2020 shall be valid for period of registration

That puts all speculation to rest. Diesel cars registered in Delhi before March 2020 will be able to run for 10 years for sure.

This means that my 2015 Swift BS-IV is safe. But we have 2012 Innova that is BS-III as it was bought in Vadodara (I tried to get BS-IV from Ahemedabad without much success). Will it run for 15 years ? Am afraid that 10 year rule will be harsh for me as Innova has done only 73K kms. till date. Government should have clarified on BS-III cars also. Am OK with the concept of fitness certificate being issued or re-registration but the rule put up in NCR for diesel cars (10 year registration) is illogical IMO. I hope the same rule is not implemented all over the nation.

BS-III is not clarified because they are no longer sold, so no chance of registering a new BS-III vehicle before or after March 2020.

NCR has different rules than most states. In Vadodara, I don't think you need to fear such drastic rules that reduce your car's registration period. You bought what was legal at the time, and paid the prevalent tax. You would be (should be) allowed to use the car as the law permits.

Not sure if it has been asked ... but for a layman who has a BS4 vehicle, what happens after BS6 kicks in and BS4 fuel isn't available anymore? I read about adblue but not very clear on how it is used. It would be good if someone can clarify the steps to be taken (for BS4 vehicles with BS6 fuel) for petrol and diesel vehicles.

In NCR, all BS4 diesel (and petrol) vehicles are running fine on BS6 fuel, which is the only fuel available here.

No steps to be taken.

Then why everyone is concerned about BS6 norms coming in and changes would be needed to engines? Why some are speculating a vehicle price rise due to conversion kits? Will there be long term damage to BS4 engines running BS6 fuel?

Sorry for my ignorance, I am confused, hence those queries.
