Try an i10 with the new 1.2 kappa engine. Although I dont know what mileage it will give, Hyundai is singing paeans to its fuel efficiency and emissions.

How does your company define "fuel efficient"?

whatever the definition of FE in the thread starter's company, he is not going to find a car giving more mileage than the swift D(under 6 lakhs)

maybe the indica, but he doesn't want that.

Within your budget, currently, its Swift Diesel or Fiat MJD. Tata Indica is going to come out with same engine (same as swift) in 4th quarter of this year (only if you can wait till then).

As others added, Swift Diesel is the right VFM based on your requirement.

That really narrows your choice to something that not unique in your parking lot. The Wagon R, M800 come with a factory-fitted kit. The Santro is reported to have this kit as a dealer fitment.

The Lancer and Cedia LPG/CNG is out of your budget.

With LPG as its fuel - currently Wagon R is available at your budget. Take a TD and plunge into it.

CNG/LPG? Do you get CNG in bangalore? If yes how long is the wait time for filling. In New Delhi currently you have to wait for 3-4 hours for CNG filling.
A Wagon R Duo, or Santro LPG, or Xeta CNG are something you can buy.
These are probably the only company fitted CNG/LPG cars available. So you don't actually have a choice. You have to buy one of the cars which your collegues have.

I broadly would say there are two categories:

1) Normal car running on Petrol / Diesel.
Here the best car to have is Maruti Swift Diesel.

2) With LPG/CNG.
Here the optios are Wagon R Duo, Santro CNG.
