Car is a machine. The best safety feature for a car is a sane and sober driver, on whom the Lord is kind.

Not clear - can you elaborate?

You need sane drivers all around in other vehicles too, not just in your vehilce.

Skoda Octavias: I have seen buses go over the Octavias and the people from the car come out safely.

If i want a highway car I want the Octy.

Cheers

Need more info here. How's it possible? Could you please explain technically?

Further SRS is Supplemental Restraint System. Airbags normally are passive safety systems. Currently the world is fast moving towards combined active and passive safety device to prevent/minimalise the damages due to crash. There are recent research going on in crash prediction from the measured parameters too and avoid it if possible by other electronics.

The best answer I could think of is that a M800 can squeeze thro if the width available is not enough for a merc.

Yes, it'd be fatal otherwise. Google tells you that.

Go check it out the Euro NCAP safety ratings
Euro NCAP - For safer cars | HOME

Those guys do all kind of tests. You will even get to know the safety of the person(pedestrian) whom you crash into.

Have a good day

Maybach & BMW -cars with best safety features money can buy

A road-roller - the most unorthodox thing on 'wheels' on the roads - best safety bet

A JCB excavator - Stuck in a traffic jam? - plough your way out! pick and place cars out of the road.

Unlike the Euro Corolla, the Indian Corolla does not get knee, side, curtain airbags, and a 3-point belt for the rear centre passenger. Also it does not get optional stability control (VSC.) Therefore, the Indian Corolla would struggle to get a 5/5 rating from the EuroNCAP. From Feb. 2009 onwards, no car will get a EuroNCAP 5-star rating unless it also includes stability control as a standard feature "in the majority of the variants sold."

The USA Corolla also does not get a driver knee airbag so the frontal impact results should be similar to the Indian version. On the IIHS site, the 2009 Civic fares better than the 2009 Corolla on the frontal impact test:

Two news items:

1) EuroNCAP has launched their new 2009 ratings system and crash tested six cars using this new system. All previous results will be under the heading "Pre 2009 rating."

Under safety equipment details, the information is not accurate currently. For instance, the Toyota IQ's various airbags are not listed.

I do not like the new rating system because it focuses on both active and passive safety versus earlier when they focused on only passive safety.

Now, a car can get away with sub-5-star passive safety and still get an overall four or five star rating if it includes things like stability control, seatbelt warnings, speed limiter warnings, etc. Manufacturers, dealers, and ignorant customers will be happier now. Educated customers will focus on the adult percentage received and the various points that led to that percentage in order to assess the passive safety of a car.

Maybe this is why Hyundai is confident of getting a 5-star rating when the i20 is tested later this year.

2) The Toyota IQ is the first car to offer rear curtain airbags in the event of a rear impact and also a front passenger seat cushion airbag -- located under the seat squab/cushion -- instead of a knee airbag because the asymmetric dashboard is too far away from the front passenger seat versus the driver's seat. The driver receives a knee airbag and does not require a seat cushion airbag.

Another link about the IQ's safety:

9 Airbags:

For world-class safety performance a total of nine airbags are provided as standard equipment. These consist of seven different types: a newly developed rear window curtain shield airbag (world first), two side airbags, one front passenger seat cushion airbag, one driver knee airbag and two curtain shield airbags, in addition to driver and front passenger airbags. With this, the iQ is positioned to offer a world-class level of safety performance for a compact car.
All nine airbags on the iQ were specially developed for the car, using the idea of miniaturisation to adapt them to the smaller cabin so as not to compromise on safety. The side airbags are bigger while the others are smaller.

SRS Seat cushion airbag (Toyota first)

Another Toyota first, the front seat cushion airbag inflates under the passenger's thigh to spread and reduce the impact to head and chest by reducing the movement of the hip with the seatbelt during a possible collision. Because of the large space between the instrument panel and the passenger's knees, Toyota could not use a conventional knee airbag to restrain the front seat passenger. A switch is available to turn it off for use with a child seat.

SRS Rear window curtain shield airbag (world first)

The iQ is the first model in the market to feature a rear window curtain shield airbag along the rear window - as there is only a small space between the rear window and the occupants their heads need to be protected. If a rear impact occurs, first the airbag deploys between the roof panel and roof headlining, then it deploys further from the rear edge of the roof headlining along the rear window to protect the passenger's head. As you would expect on a car designed to carry children, the rear seats are also fitted with Isofix connection points.
