Should change this to One year. I mean X Km in a year Wish I did...

Especially when you are on a Safari, you will have several long trips. Doubts? Check with our hrag, tsk, suman, gd, and oh, the gowda too [Dont ask Pavan, I think he is the only person who clocked the least with the beast in that time frame ]

I was always seeing about the KMs I may use in a month. Since I mostly commute by 2-wheeler to office, I thought a petrol will be best bet. But no more after these steep rise of fuel price. Luckily little low now.

A sedan and a SUV is tough to compare.
ACM has given nice info already.
Tata is improving on service levels as reported by recent owners and Skoda is dipping so safe bet will be Safari - will also save you few lacs during initial by and then maintainence.

Thanks a lot everyone for the replies - Yes even it sounded silly to me when I thoght of positing this question of comparing the laura with the safari. It is just these 2 vehicles which really have made a place in my heart - safari becuase of it's grandness and skoda because of it's a marvel of engineering and quality, but I am scared to put my money on it considering the horrific storied I am hearing about the service and cost associated with it. I also know that TATA service is not great but is much better than the skoda's .
Having driven the Verna & Scorpio for about 6 years it is time for me to start hunting again, so wanted the inputs from all the knowledgeable guys out here !!

Again, thanks a lot for hte replies and keep posting.

When you say Safari is there any off-road involved or likely? If not then my vote is Laura. Safari 4x4 is a league of its own if the roads are bad or simply non-existent. Else Laura should score every where but price. Do note that my opinion is based on hearsay from owners of both and personally except test drive I have not used either.

Clear some myth about TML service.

I beg to differ.

Just completed about a month of ownership of Safari VX 4x4 and have done the first servicing few days back. I have found TML very responsive. Even TASS too is responsive. They hear you patiently. The SA of TASS I went to for 1st service stayed with me beyond his scheduled office hours till I left their workshop satisfied and happy. Even they allowed me to stand in front of my Safari and observe what they were doing in the service bay. Haven't experienced this level of warmth and personal attention from either Maruti (in my ~7 years of ownership of Wagon-R) or Hyundai- couple of occasions I took my firend's Santro to HASS. My pre-sales experience w/ Honda dealer in Pune was extremely poor. Toyota was decent. Skoda is bad, you admit yourself. Then what remains?

TML service is not bad. Based on my experience w/ TML (and TASS) so far, I will happily rate their service at 9/10 while I give 7.5/10 to Maruti and 6.5/10 to Hyundai.

Laura - Horrible a.s.s
Safari - Small niggling issues all the time

Take a pick or go for alternate choices, like a Honda or Toyota.

curious, why not a sonata embera or an optra magnum?

between your two choices, I'd say tata - their only problem is incompetence

Stick to Tata and you will live to fight another day at work.
Buy a skoda and you will end up fighting everyday at their service centre and finally in court for years and years to come.

Ohuhhhh I retract my Laura vote based on discussion on other threads elsewhere on these forums.
So Safari is only choice left.

NO SKODA. Refer to few other threads on Skoda on the forum. I may not have Safari, but I own a Tata Vehicle for last 6 years and atleast, I do not have issues that SKODA has.

take care and drive safely

^ Do not jump in for Skoda without reading the threads as @rkavthekar mentions. The thread are a real eye-opener.
