Background

Brother owns a NHC 2003 with 30k on the odo.
Sister owns an Accent(Petrol) with 40k on the odo.
Both are AP Registered.

Sister : I'm having a lot of trouble with Cops nowadays. The excuses are not working that I'm on holiday in b'lore and hence the AP Registration. I've shifted to " I'm constructing a house and that's why im in
B'lore for the past 2 yrs. "

Brother: But its still not worth paying 80k on tax for the Accent.

Sister: Your BIL has stopped driving the car cause he cant be bothered with the hassles.

Brother: Get rid of it then and buy an i20.

Sister: Oh by the way , i keep seeing a silver baleno with "Team-Bhp" sticker near Chimply Fun in Kalyanagar.
Brother: Ah but B'lore guys dont have T-shirts like theHyd gang.acha forget that, for your 2-3 % of highway driving, just compromise on the saloon thingy and get yourself an i20.

Sis: Whats the damage
Bro:Think about 5.5
Sis: Whats the EMI like.
Bro:I dunno, probably about 4k if you exchange the accent and take only 50%value over 7yrs.
Sis:Whats the i20 like
Bro:The newer Getz
Sis: I like the Getz
Bro:Aha!, well if your willing to not think in lines of new design old design, there is the Getz Crdi for the same price.
Sis: Whats this Crdi ?
Bro:Something that I'll be jealous of you getting.
Sis:Whats the EMI
Bro: Same thing for same cost of car.

Meanwhile Dad gets involved and says : "Beta, forget this EMI at 11-14%and all, I'm getting 3-4 % on my Savings account.Id rather you pay me this than stepping out for the loan. But why are ou going for an old car , i20 is nice and sporty and is new."

Sis:
Bro : I like the accent better than the NHC.Sell the NHC and I'll keep the Accent.
Sis: Do whatever you want with my car , but show me the Getz Crdi on Team-bhp

after 10 mins...

Sis: Pappa,Getz is better.i20 is only got fancy looks and stuff.
Bro: Not if your willing to wait for the Crdi i20.
Sis:To hell with that,Gets Crdi it is.I cant be asked and get hassled longer with the B'lore cops.Besides, they've started stopping me for the noise and charging me for race car or something.
Bro:Grrrrr, cant believe your getting the Getz Crdi!.Chalo , we'll get about 3.00lac for the NHC, you give me your Accent,i'll give the money to Pappa and let him buy your car in B'lore.I STILL CANT BELIEVE YOUR GETTING THE GETZ CRDI!!!!

Sigh!, Ive got to buy her a bumper sticker saying "SLOW DOWN! or this girl will embarrass you and your car"

The story begins and you shall all be updated on the buying selling and jealousy factors in due course.
cheers till then.

There's a new twist to the story

Son: Dad, I've been thinking
Dad: Does it need a calculator ? Because if it does, I'm not interested .
Son: What if i put it this way , for the cost of 1 new car , we can have 2 cars
Dad : write it down and explain .
Son: Well , its the cost of 1 new car on a whole vs sale of our existing cars.Still interested ?
Dad : Swathi , I think ive figured this out , your brother is not going to just let you enjoy the Getz Crdi and wants one for himself too.
Son :

Acha, see if this makes sense though .

Value for the Accent and City put together is about 5.2-5.3lac
Value for 2 Getz's is about 11.5lac

Difference paid is about 6lac .

Considering the mileage im doing every year , its been about 2000/month , thats 24k a yr.

Now in the Accent giving avg 10km/ltr , im spending about 1.1 lac on fuel over the year. Where as the getz fuel expense would be about 50k less being diesel at 36/lts and mileage at 15km/ltr. Add the depreciation over 1 year of the Accent to this and i probably loose further 50k probably which i can save up by selling now. thats an indirect savings on 1Lac on a whole.

In effect we get the 2 Getz's at 5Lacs over the 12 year period!!!!

Bookings and Deal enquiries are going to be done tomorrow. How would you guys suggest i go ahead with barganing since 1 car is required in Bangalore and other in Andhra ?

Arun, The toll booths don't enter the car's registration number on the toll slips. You can have a KA or AP car in Bangalore or Hyderabad and borrow/steal the toll slips from anyone and prove that you just entered the respective state!

BTW, I love getz! Is it going to be be good bye to the NHC?

I think the number gets printed automatically on the reciept given at the toll booth. I've seen it on Tumkur Road. When its a manual ticket, they scribble the number on it.

Am sure the cops are smart enough to check and ask for other additional proofs in addition to toll slips, atleast in Bangalore. I've seen them jump into the middle of the road to pull over cars which bear non-KA registration in Electronic City (and you find plenty of them there).

This state wise reg thing is pretty stupid. We pay money for tax and everything when we buy the car and we have the right to use in it anywhere in India. What a stupid rule this is.

What do people who have transfers every 2yrs or 5yrs do?? They can't go changing reg everywhere they go can they??

BTW, i think fuel bills from other states are enough proof to show the cops you just came for a visit. Ask someone back home to keep sending you bills with you car no. on it every 2weeks or so

to make things clearer , I'd want to register one in Karnataka and other in Andhra.S
So can i purchase the vehicles in one showroom in Hyd for example and have it delivered along with Karnataka Tax and Registration done by a hyundai showroom in Bangalore?or would i have to complete individual transactions in 2 different states in 2 different showrooms?.What I'm looking at is the bargaining and discount factor.

Yes Nazim , its goodbye to the NHC indeed . Love the car but its not making sense with the petrol expense.

Maharashtra has a concept of entry tax of 12% if you bring a car from another state. This is over and above the road tax. So if you buy a new car in AP and bring it here on temp registration number & then register here, you would pay road tax + 12% entry tax. Check if karnataka or AP has a similar rule. If yes then it would defeat the purpose of bargaining for a better discount.

Forget buying state X and registering in state Y. There is a thread somewhere in here about the proposal. It is simply not economical. You will end up paying twice the taxes in state Y.

Well I would say register both of them in AP and visit your home town often ( once in 6 months at least).
ave additionally by filling cheaper fuel in AP and also train / bus tickets.

A printed Fuel bill is a sufficient proof also you can get PUC also in Hydrabad ( required once in 6 months)

As per RTO rule you need to register only if car is for more then 6 months in the state , It does not specify number of entries.

Getting both the cars in AP and registering them here would defeat the very first reason that Arun is looking for a new car -- trouble with cops.

Arun, why don't you speak to the dealers and explain the need of 2 cars in 2 states? I am sure that the dealers would find a way and means of giving you a good deal by associating themselves with their counterparts in Bangalore for a profit share

Good move Arun, Check if the dealerships have a branch in Bangalore, that way it makes things easier.

In my case Kun Hyundai has it's Head Office in Chennai and a branch here in Hyderabad. All my finance and negotiations are done at Chennai while I take delivery of the car at Hyderabad.

arun, why dont you talk to Hyndai directly. I know this sounds like a strange suggestion, but believe me I have seen it work with other car brands where the company has directly stepped in to solve "peculiar" problems of a customer that a dealer could not solve.

we have two cases on t-bhp- Ani's black bolero and Muralidhar's petrol Safari

maybe Hyundai can take a centralisd booking from you for 2 getz and instruct delaers in AP and KA for regististration.

Hyundai has a company owned dealership in delhi called Hyundai Motor Plaza. Check if there is something similar in AP or Ka. that may be a good starting point.

Updates:

Took a day off from work on Monday and test drove the following

Fiat/Tata showroom near Paradise:Palio Stile Multijet + Indica Vista
Anniversary
Sis(for the palio) : You drive, i cant even depress the clutch pedal completely even though the seat is adjusted to max forward.
bro: Whats the point then , not like we should go for a car that makes driving uncomfortable.Lets just for namesake try the Indica.

on the test drive

Sis : hmmmm , quite good, i like this whole centre thingy , makes the view much more clearer.
Bro : I just noticed , this thing doesn't have door open warnings
Sis : no , i think it does , the instrument panel gets dim when door is shut.
Bro: yeah right , like that helps if your looking away from the panel when you shut the door.
Dad in back seat: Beta, the doors lock automatically, so lets try driving slowly with the door open and see if it warns us.

Sis drives slowly and zilch happens.

Bro:Amartya's going to be there and he's a rugrat .. why do you want to take chances with such systems.

Showroom experience : the Tata crew was very pleasant actually. It was a female attendant and she never got inquisitive if we were truly interested in buying the Indica, yet she explained about every feature or lack of one even.

We spent about 2-3 mins checking out the Palio Stile , but a Fiat rep never popped up asking if we needed assistance. It didnt matter though cause once she sat in the car and couldnt depress the clutch fully, the vehicle was erased from our shortlist.

Mody Ford :
Ikon Diesel
Bro: The engine is supposed to be good , but the car as such is older than Spice( thats my Sis's dog in B'lore)
Dad: I like the front look and we had a lot of happiness with the Escort. I think this car deserves a test drive.A Ford is a Ford!.
Son : Okkaaayyyyy
Sis :We'll go for test drive , but i dont want this car anyways. Its over our budget
Dad: No beta, you've been driving the accent . lets see if you feel comfortable in a "car".
Sis : Arun , you drive and then ill take over on necklace road
Dad(to the salesman) : Get me a list of your dealers in B'lore. We travel a lot and we need to be confident that service is available close to our place (Banaswadi)
Son:

Vehicle arrives and we go for a test drive

Sis: Ajay's got this car , bloody boring isnt it?
Bro: Ahem!,sssh dad's listening
Dad : Ok enough said , yes the car design inside feels old and the engine is louder than the indica we drove earlier.
Sis: Besides, its over our budget too.

Talwar Hyundai : I20 Petrol , Verna Crdi, Getz Crdi - these were driven as well , but ill do a write up on these later on cause there was a whole 2 days involved in this experience.
