DCeite: I had returned to Toronto. The time has come but cars have changed.

Drove all the 1.5 under diesels and 1.2 under petrols. They seriously lack the grunt for highways (including the i-vtec) which means I wont have the lancer just to myself (there goes the conical filter and exhaust).
I am considering the following

Honda Jazz (I said things have changed) 7.25 on-road plus freebies
Parents set on Jazz but I still dont find it value for money at 7.25 plus freebies. Further discounts are possible and I am working on it. Landmark Honda has not surprisingly upped their quality levels since Emerald Honda began services in the city. The car at this price lacks climate control, USB/Bluetooth equipped stereo or alloy wheels.

VW Polo P highline (noisy, cheaper than Jazz) 6.70 on-road
Polo drove nicely but Euro cars are suspect to higher bills (Skoda anyone?) and the petrol was noisy. VW Ahmedabad dealership also sucks (owned by the Landmark Honda people) so its mostly out.

Nissan Micra top-end XV (td'd a prototype) 5.85 on-road
Micra's 3-cyl sounded quiet during the drive and the company claims good mileage too but It was not so great to drive. Also the car was a prototype with the non-chrome nissan logo steering and no dead pedal. A/c was chilling though and I loved the keyless utility.

The car is for city driving and if more frugal than lancer (13-14 city, 17-18 highway) might used it as a regular car which gives edge to Jazz with space and more i-VTEC power.

Edit: Met with the Honda dealer and seems I cant push him further down. Does anyone have experience getting the price lower? can I get tints included?

and does Polo (maintainence) or Micra(reliability) make more sense in the long run?

I intend to keep the car for atleast 10-12 years.
