Advice for younger brother in UK-Avensis or Audi A4

My brother owns a Volvo in UK which has run 90K miles but is now acting up a lot. Since he does not plan to stick around for long there (being homesick and recently becoming a father), he wants to buy a 2nd hand car. His budget has been pounds 5-7K and has shortlisted these:
1. Toyota Avensis 2003-05: 50K miles.
2. Ford Mondeo also 2003-05: 50K miles.
3. Audi A4: perhaps 2002: 50K miles
4. Vauxhall Vectra: 50K miles.

Since 2nd hand car models availability varies (right now he says second hand cars are hot in UK because of recession), his choice is effectively Avensis 2004 or Audi A4 (2002-03?). Both run for 50K miles, and are petrol.

1 I am quite happy with Toyota and so have advised him on that.
2. Audi A4 is automatic, has 2 year parts+replacement warrantly (UK one so diff. from `Indian' version'.)

I have read and heard about Audi's great reliability and their extremely friendly customer service.

However, since he will use car for another 50K miles/2 years, is A4 a good choice or at least a reasonable choice. I really do not want to impose my preferences to him, and if people (preferably who know something about Audi/have experienced their UK London service) have any feedback, that would be greatly appreciated.

My brother plans to choose and close out the coming weekend (13-15 Aug).

toyota Avensis is a VFM option and is a very low Maintenance car compared to others listed here.

stay away from Vauxhall and Ford as you never know when their cars start acting up.

Thanks. Vauxhall Vectra and Ford Mondeo are out for now (no used car available in his budget and preference--<50K miles). His choice is really as per the thread title: Avensis or A4.

Finally my brother traded in his old and till recently reliable Volvo for a Toyota Avensis (is it that in the picture enclosed). This now means that our family (brothers and their better half) has now 2 Toyota, 1 Honda, 1 GM, 1 Maruti

He told me it is a Toyota Avensis 2005 petrol model manual transmission with 40,000 miles. It is for 5,100 pounds. Has also bought a 1-year warranty (do not know the exact figure). He bought it in London where he stays.
