Most comfortable car/SUV for long journeys (under 12 Lakh)

Which car under 12 lakh is most comfortable for taking up long journeys with family (journeys of more than 8 hours)? We are a family of 4 (my parents, wife, self, our heights are between 5.5 and 6ft) and my kid.

Last time we did a journey of 9 hours in my Getz, my wife was not happy and said she prefers to travel in train. While I dont disagree (do I have a choice?) I like to drive and when I upgrade to another car I will try to go for one that keeps us most comfortable. I would like to hear suggestions.

Mods: I searched but could not find any similar thread. If there is one, please delete this and point me to the relevant thread/posts. thanks!

Hi, as per your requiement i would say Innova will be the best suited for you. Third row seats arent anything to talk much about but then that is the case with most vehicles. Also I guess you can consider Scorpio Vlx. But guess as long as your drive is mostly on higways may be Innova is the better choice.

Eventhough I love Safari, I'd say Innova fits the bill best. Get the version with 2+2+3 seating configuration. The middle row having captain's chairs makes the car feel more roomy and allows people in the third row to feel connected with the rest.

Having said that, I wish Innova's ride is better and seats a shade more supportive for the under-thighs. Safari is better in that aspect. But Safari does not have a usable third row.

Usable Space - Good enough (for 4 Adults+ 1 Kid)
Handling - What's that??
Ride Comfort - The *Best*; Unmatched by any other MUV/SUV in its class

Nothing like the Innova. Amazing road presence, control grip and comfort. But yes one also needs a second car, which one can more often in the city. Although if you drive distances in Bangalore, Innova can serve you well there as well !

Test drive Innova, Scorpio and Safari and pick what you like. They all suit your need of seating 5 in comfort over long distances. If you prefer refinement and reliability over other attributes, buy Innova. There is lot of information/ownership reviews about these vehicles on this forum. Check it out.

Thanks a lot guys. Innova seems to be the most preferred, as some other friends also favored it. Among the three (Innova/Scorpio/Safari) my personal preference is Innova. Isnt there any Sedan that comes close to this?

Ahem!

Buddy, The present Innova has undergone more facelifts off late.

It is showing its age presently, dont be surprised if Innova is replaced with a different model.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...muv-india.html

Suppose to cost beyond 14 lacs ON-ROAD, and replaces the Innova all the way

And long distance drive does not mean Innova will help, its equally bad over bad roads.

Comfy Cruiser for 5 over longest of distances you can think of, Best in Driving comfort, great silent and powerful engine, economical SUV and with off-roading capabilities, None can beat the Safari.

Arrive at a decision after doing TD's and later decide.

Dear Mohan,
Looks are subjective. If you find Xylo OK, you could have a look at it too! You would save some lakhs for yourself. Maybe, you could give it a thought.
Cheers,
Deepak

None have the space/comfort that you are looking for. Innova really is a perfect car for the families and will last forever.

why rule out the sedans ??

Mitsubishi Lancer. Excellent car to drive. Good rear seat. get a diesel, and enjoy the journeys. Even the Cedia I hear is good to drive, though the back seat is not as great as the lancer.

Hyundai Verna and preowned Elantra ??

Even the Logan has a very good ride, and sufficient seating. the FE is a big Plus.

cheers!

INNOVA all the way.

Scorpio = seasickness worse than a tummy upset.
Safari = ok but still tall will not be as comfortable as INNOVA
Tavera = Same as above bad road presence/looks
Xylo = Slightly better than Scorpio still tall so rolls like a fat lady

Driven all cars on extended roadtrips and INNOVA beats them all on comfort. I like the safari looks but willing to lump it all for comfort therefor continue to retain my INNOVA. Regarding comments about new model from Toyota I am sure I will be a great great great grand father before that happens = not for another minimum 2 years if you are an optimist (going by Fortuner record crazy).

Oh by the way I hated the INNOVA look when I bought her in 05 but to date don't regret the call
