Have more cars than we need. Reorganising my garage?

This is going to be a long post.
Today morning when i went to start my 92xxxkm old Innova, the engine wont crank. Reason:the 6 month old battery has no charge.

Flashback 1yr ago:My family faced a catastrophe as my father had died battling cancer. We are two brothers, both doctors, my father was a doctor running a hospital in a remote area in jharkhand. When he alive both of us brothers never worked in our hospital, but after him we came back and started to manage the hospital.
When things started to settle after such a jolt, I saw our driveway. It just had too many cars.
The thing was my father had 2 cars; 2006 INNOVA 90XXXKMS and Accent gtx 2004 50xxx kms.
The household had 1 more car 2004 Omni 82xxx kms for local running etc.
I had Swift2007 22xxxkms which came back with me to the house.
plus there was a M800 32xxx KMs which my brother had, also came back.

NOW the problem is we have too many cars and no where to go.
1st Car the Innova ran 2000 kms in 1year. not a single km inlast 60 days.
2nd car the Accent ran 3000 kms in1 yr.
swift ran 5000 kms in 1 year
800 didnot run even 1000 kms in 1yrs.
omni was sold off.

Other problem, service centre for all the cars is atleast 75 kms from my place.
now sometimes the battery is dead in 1 of the cars, or rats eating up the wirings etc etc.
Worse still, we want buy a new car (of that includes me too).
ohh and EMI on all the cars is complete except swift which has 6 months left.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
I am open to alll suggestions

Thanks in advance

Abhijeet

Dr. Abhijeet,

How about a note on which cars you / your brother / the family are keen on retaining and the intended usage patterns? This will help us in advising better.

+1 to GTO, it would more clearer picture.

However, from my point of view you should retain Swift for personal use, Innova for family usage-outing and a new car for the brother. However, both of you can shift personal cars from time-to-time as per convenience.

IMO, sell off the Swift, Innova and retain the other two. If you feel the need later you can sell off the Accent and buy a bigger car.

@GTO@ashthedivx
INNOVA- reasons not to sell
We dont really want to sell it.as this is the most relaible most comfortable of the lot. Plus we need a big car for occasional visits to relatives. The car requires no work except bumper touch up .

reasons to sell
highest number of kms clocked.
looks old.may be that will change after bumper painting

ACCENT reasons to sell
oldest car. petrol no fun to drive. niggling problems like leather wrapped steering wheel is in bad shape. some electrical problems. black color .

reasons not to sell
just got the bumpers repainted. looks like new. easy to drive in ranchi with relative comfort.
new battery and tyres.

SWIFT - Reasons not to sell
was my car. newest of the lot. scratchless.
polished by me every month.
has a team bhp sticker on it.all the miles are highway miles.

Reasons to sell
hmmmm... i dont see any reason but wife says this is the car which comes out least often, so sell it.

What I suggest is, sell off the cars which are of no more use and buy a bigger and a better car. This will meet the purpose of saving money, space and can get you a new car too

My suggestion... sell off the Accent & M800. Buy a new sedan which you and your brother can use. Keep the Innova (family car) and Swift.

You didn't tell the budget for your new car. Also, how many cars do you want to sell?

According to me, sell off the 800 and Accent. Accent is known to give niggles after 60-70k kms and Swift should serve the purpose of M800. You can also sell off the Swift and get a good new car from all that moolah. Let the Innova stay

i agree with most of the suggestions. sell the accent since korean petrols arent the best, and the m800 since it has no + points over any of the other cars.

the innova will last you for a long time and the swift is a very good hatch.

My suggestion, buy another house.

Just kidding. I think you can do away with Accent and M800 and get a new practical small car with that money (Ritz or i10).

I say sell all these and buy a Tata Safari pearl white and a red Bullet Classic 500. You're all set to tashan the ghatis of Jharkhand.
You'll have to let go of the Dr. atittude though. :-)

Do remember to get the darkest possible tint and Loudest possible silencer for the Safari and Bullet, respectively.

I don't see any reason whatsoever to sell the Swift. You maintain it very well and if anything, an older car should be booted. Which in this case, most definitely means the 800.

Somehow I find sense in selling the Innova. It's getting on a bit, and unless you really need a people-mover, by a comfortable sedan instead.

Koreans are not reliable and all that, I am not aware of. I had an Accent that served well for 1,20,000+ km. Eventually got bored of it and sold it off.

Yup thats my point is, though it is being a old horse but trust me toyota is as good as new for atleast 2 lakh kms if regular service is being followed up. However, to fight with old looks you may trying replacing bumpers with new model one. It might be straight fix one without any major modification.

Agree with most of the people who vote for the Accent and M800 to be sold off.

Swift like you say is the most recent of the lot and should stay. Innova would help you go to places where the entire family needs to travel.

You can replace the Accent and M800 with a hatchback or sedan for your brother which can be interchanged between you two.
