New Car!! Second hand scorpio or sierra turbo?

Hello People...
Im Really Confused..
I just got engaged....
And well i already drive a maruti zen mpfi 2001...
But im looking to buy a bigger vehicle...
I was wondering whether to buy either a second hand scorpio...
Or whether to buy a second hand tata sierra turbo...
As im on a tight budget im tilting towards the sierra...
Any ideas??

right on. a small new car within your budget is anytime worth a used car which might look bigger in size only.

A big car will look bigger in size.

PsychoLyn - how about an used Innova ? Thats definitely better value than the Safari or Scorpio.

Hi PsychoLyn, what's your budget? Are you looking at accomodating more people or more luggage?

If you provide all the details, you could get "spot on" suggestions from a lot of fellow Bhpians, which could help you eliminate your confusion

A quick check at Carwale.com revealed a decent pre-owned Scorpio will cost you ~ 5.00 lakhs or above, where as a preowned Swift comes ~ 3.50 lakhs. If your budget permits go for a new Ford Figo base model, but stay away from old TATA Sierra.

The Ford Figo is spacious and highly VFM. Though not in the league of a Sierra, but a better buy. If you are looking MUV/SUV-wards, then a used Innova makes sense. It may be slightly expensive than a Scorpio with a similar reading on the odo, but IMO the Innova is a far better car in the used car market.

I fully agree. Tata Sierra production has stopped since many years. Plus knowing the Tata quality of vehicles at the time when Sierra was produced, any Sierra you buy now, would be really heavy on your pocket in terms of maintenance.

I would advise you to stay away.

You may rather see a used Qualis (though I think this might be difficult as not many Qualis owners are selling them). Might fit the bill and is a good vehicle.

Hey there buddy. Whatever car you think of, make sure have a test drive. People will give you loads of opinions. Remember, that will be based on their views, their likings. See what suits you best.

To list things, a hatch would be good. Easy to zip around in traffic.

As for what the Mrs likes, she may love the pink Estilo. Now, you wouldn't want to buy that. Would you?

Check the following cars if you're willing to settle in for a hatch.
  1. Figo
  2. Punto
  3. Polo

For sedans,
  1. Dzire
  2. Manza

If you want to live with a *pre-worshiped* car,
  1. Innova
  2. Scorpio
  3. Safari

Happy choosing!

See you around!

Cartman.

you mentioned safety.. go for a car which addressed your safety concern within your budget... that might mean a hatchback but will come with safety features like ABS and airbags within your budget...

an old scorpio or a new bolero might be very strongly built but these safety features along with a good seatbelt will provide you better safety.

Spot on... A bolero should be a very good buy. Its sturdy and has great build. Though might not give you the experience on an SUV, its a very good vehicle and a second hand should fit your budget. Or you might even try a Mahindra Invader for that better feel (though I have not tried Invader anytime).
