Thank you! S-Cross is not going anywhere. Still going strong at 157K, we did yet another cross country drive earlier this month. I don't have any reason to sell it.

Re: The "I Booked my Car" Thread

Update to my Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI Rider Plus AT booking and delivery experience.

Last Monday (14/06) SA informed that the showrooms are allowed to open in Chennai for sales and RTO has also started registrations on limited basis. He asked me to make the full payment in order to process the delivery. I told him I will make the payment only after seeing the car in flesh. He was a bit reluctant saying that they do not allow customers to see the vehicle only on the basis of booking amount. But I insisted hence he asked me to visit their Ambattur show room. The yard was close by to this showroom. I saw the 4th gen Skoda Octavia displayed in the showroom.I did a quick walk around and then I visited the yard to inspect the vehicle. There were a lot of Rapid cars in the yard though I could spot only 1 Rider Plus AT I was happy with what I saw.

Later in the afternoon I visited the Teynampet showroom to close the deal. The SA refused to offer any freebies like Extended Warranty or accessories. I spoke to a higher up person he was also not at all forthcoming giving the reason that for this variant they do not offer any discounts as their margin is only ₹7000/- and in the month of May there were nil sales due to lockdown though they had to pay salaries and other overheads. I finally insisted on a discount on the insurance as outside I was getting a quote of 10k lesser than what the dealer quoted.

They agreed on this and I also told them I will not be taking the essential accessories kit.It was not worth at all as for ₹8650/-only floor mats car cover cushions and mud flaps were offered. Out of all that I wanted only the floor mats which I can get aftermarket for less than 1k.They agreed for this and right there I transferred the full amount. So in total I got a discount of ₹18650/- on the on road price of 11.20L.

The next day all the documentation was processed quickly and they mailed the Form 20. Fastag and insurance details were also shared. I was expecting the registration will take place on Wednesday. But there was some glitch in the RTO so they could not make the tax payment.

Yesterday they got the vehicle registered and I took delivery by 445pm. The first delivery after lockdown!!!

Congratulations brother for booking one of the best performance hatches within 12L!

Any reason for booking the Polo?

And, good to see that you aren't selling off the S-Cross and retaining it! I guess your S-Cross will be a highway mile cruncher while the Polo will be used within the city limits, right?

Thank you Pancham.

That was a good observation by you.

Actually the touch screen does not come factory fitted in the Rider Plus variant hence it was missing when I saw the car at the yard.

The dealer installs it before delivery.

Thank you! Always wanted to own a Polo, VW sales experience in 2016 made me walk away from the car. We needed an automatic car for city limits and luckily for me VW is still selling the same Polo.

I did not even look at any other car.

Congratulations!

Incidentally, I just checked out a Youtube video of Rider Plus vs Rider variant earlier tonight and was surprised to see that dealers install the touchscreen in Rider Plus. Strange arrangement. The rider variant came with non touchscreen HU btw.

I have a query.

Is it possible to add steering mounted audio controls and switches for all four power windows in the front door? The car is a complete package in itself and adding these two features would add that remaining convenience as well.

Then made remaining payment today. Hoping to get delivery within 10 days or so - as informed by SA, RTO is working with limited hours so might take time. Things going smooth till now - fingers crossed that no major hurdles.

As others have updated - pls make sure that you have written records. I used to send email to dealer after every telephonic and whatsapp discussion as to what we have discussed and agreed upon. And, get confirmation. Hope this is helpful.
So, car was finally delivered on 20th June - registration took some time. Just drove around a bit. A bit busy at work to really go for long drive...planning in July. Will be good drive in manasoon.

Congratulations on the car, I spotted you today. Recognized the number and the color. I was driving the Black EcoSport sporting a similar number plate, we drove together right from Ashok Pillar till Thillai Ganga Nagar subway. Small World

BTW I was initially contemplating changing to Smoke Grey from Absolute Black but stuck to my original choice. But I must say the Smoke Grey looks smashing in person.

Re: The "I Booked my Car" Thread

We currently have 2 cars:
  1. 2018 Polo GT TSI - Primarily driven by Wife
  2. 2012 Laura TSI - Driven by me.
In the post Covid-19 world, our travel patterns have significantly changed. Wifey has gone into permanent WFH till Dec 21 while my monthly running has remained more or less the same.

The bug of changing cars has been raising its head from the beginning of the year. In Jan we TD'ed we went to TD Harrier and on a random hunch TD'ed the Nexon EV. As a follow-up to Nexon EV, we even TD'ed the MG ZS EV.

In Jan we had almost booked the Nexon EV but decided against it at the last moment because:
  1. Installation of Charging Point in the parking at home.
  2. Ridiculously low offer on the Laura by the dealer.
However last week, the car replacement bug reared it head. We did some Excel Maths and decided to replace one car in the stable. Reason for changing the car were:
  1. Cost of Petrol.
  2. Car sitting and leaking money.
  3. FAME-II benefits + State level subsidy coming to an end.
Make: Tata
Model: Nexon EV
Variant: XZ+ Lux
Color: Blue
Fuel: Electric
Booking Date: 26th June 2021
Expected Delivery Date: 60 Days
Dealer & City: Puneet Motors, Mumbai
Freebies : None
OTR: 16,70,000/-+ Insurance ( To be done by self)

Car being replaced - Polo GT TSI
