2015 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Coupe officially unveiled

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the GLE-Coupe SUV. The model will make its public debut at the 2014 Detroit motor show. Mercedes-Benz has revealed certain key details along with the images. As the German car maker puts it, the GLE-Coupe is a product of combining two classes of vehicles. The GLE-Coupe directly targets the BMW X6 with its large proportions, coupe like sloping roofline and flowing side contours. The SUV has drawn some very polarized responses ever since the first spy images emerged.

The GLE-Coupe features a single slat chrome front grill, 20 inch alloy wheels as standard (21'' & 22'' wheels are optional) and plastic body cladding. It also gets LED headlamps that are styled similarly to the new S-Class and LED tail lamps that are similar to the ones the S-Class Coupe and AMG GT use.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed 3 variants of the coupe SUV. The GLE 350 d 4MATIC produces over 254 bhp and 620 Nm of torque. The GLE 400 4MATIC petrol gets a direct-injection V6 bi-turbo engine that makes 333 bhp and 480 Nm of torque.

The GLE-Coupe will also be the first model to get the "AMG Sport" treatment. The GLE 450 AMG will be powered by a V6 bi-turbo petrol engine that produces 362 bhp and 520 Nm of torque. Mercedes-Benz says the GLE 450 AMG comes with the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive as standard. The coupe SUV features the DYNAMIC SELECT control system that has five modes. Namely, INDIVIDUAL, COMFORT, SLIPPERY, SPORT and SPORT+. Mode selection is done through the rotary dial on the centre console. The GLE 450 AMG will also feature the AIRMATIC air suspension, a continuously variable damping system and an automatic lowering function that reduces ride height at higher speeds.

On the inside, the GLE 450 AMG's 3-spoke steering wheel is draped in black nappa leather. The model also gets stainless steel pedals with rubber studs & carbon-fibre trim with piano black accents.
