2017 Hyundai Verna launched at Rs. 8.00 lakh

Hyundai today launched the all-new Verna in India. The new model comes in four variants- E, EX, SX, SX(O). Prices for the petrol version start at Rs. 8.00 lakh while the diesel range starts at Rs. 9.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). These are introductory prices for the first 20,000 customers.

The new Verna is based around the K2 platform which also underpins the Elantra. Hyundai claims that the new architecture is more rigid and offers better crash protection than the outgoing model. It measures 4,440 mm in length, 1,729 mm in width, 1,475 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Ground clearance is 170 mm, fuel tank capacity is 45 litres and has a maximum luggage space of 480 litres. The exterior styling is based on the company's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy. The front end gets a chrome-lined hexagonal cascade grille flanked by revised headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and projector fog lamps. The rear end is all new and features a triple-pod LED tail lamp. 

The interior of the new Verna is finished in a dual-tone scheme of beige and black. The dashboard layout is also new. A touchscreen infotainment screen and climate control system make up the centre console. The instrument cluster comprises of twin-dials with an MID in the centre and comes with a new design multi-functional steering wheel. Safety features like ABS with EBD and front dual-airbags are standard across the range and in addition to that, the top-trim gets side and curtain airbags as well.

Some of the key features include hands free smart trunk, automatic climate control with rear vents, ventilated seats (a segment first), rear sun shade, adjustable rear headrests, height adjustable driver's seat, electric sunroof, front centre armrest with storage and luggage lamp. Lower variants get a 5.0-inch touchscreen while the high-end versions get features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with voice recognition, Hyundai iBlue smartphone app, cruise control, USB chargers at the front and rear, smart key with engine start/stop button, automatic headlights with cornering lamps and escort function, rear view camera, etc. 

The new Verna is available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The 1,591cc, 4-cylinder, petrol engine produces 121 BHP @ 6,400 rpm and 151 Nm @ 4,850 rpm. On the other hand, the 1,582cc, 4-cylinder diesel with a variable geometry turbocharger puts out 126 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 260 Nm @ 1,500-3,000 rpm. Both diesel and petrol engines are offered with a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmissions. 

The suspension setup on the new Verna comprises of McPherson strut and coil springs in the front with a coupled torsion beam axle in the rear. The car comes equipped with disc brakes in the front and drum brakes at the rear. The base E and EX variants come with 15-inch steel rims wrapped in 185/65 R15 tyres, while SX and SX(O) versions gets 16-inch alloys shod with 195/55 R16 tyres.

The new Verna is available in seven colour options- Fiery Red, Sleek Silver, Phantom Black, Polar White, Star Dust, Flame Orange and Siena Brown.
