2017 Hyundai Xcent facelift launched at Rs. 5.38 lakh

Hyundai has launched the 2017 Xcent facelift in India at prices starting from Rs. 5.38 lakh for petrol and Rs. 6.28 lakh for the diesel range. The 2017 Xcent will be available in 5 variants - E, E+, S, SX and SX(O), with each of them being available with two engine options - a petrol and a diesel.

Cosmetically, the front grille is now wider and gets a chrome border. The lower bumper area houses a slim black insert that stretches across the width of the car and ends in bracket-like shapes that house the LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) and engulf the larger fog lights. The silhouette of the car remains identical to the current model, though it now comes with a new set of 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels on the top-end models.

The rear end features 2-piece taillights that are much wider than the units found on the pre-facelift model. The boot too has been tweaked a bit to house the larger taillights and a new wider chrome bar is placed above the number plate housing. It also features a shark fin antenna on the higher variants that has been placed at the rear portion of the roof. The updated compact sedan can be opted in 5 colour options - Star Dust, Wine Red, Polar White, Marina Blue and Sleek Silver.

On the inside, the Xcent facelift borrows the cabin and dashboard layout from the model it replaces. However, there is a new 7.0-inch touchscreen system on offer that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also doubles up as the output screen for the reverse parking camera. This new system is available only with the SX and SX(O) variants, while the E+ and S trims get a basic 2-DIN music system. Hyundai also claims to have made some changes to enhance the car's NVH refinement levels. These include the presence of wheel air curtain, increased use of sound absorbing material and a reinforced dashboard.

The Xcent continues to be offered with the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. This petrol engine can be opted with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The 2017 Xcent petrol MT delivers a company-claimed fuel economy figure of 20.14 km/l while the AT variants are rated at 17.36 km/l.

The earlier diesel model's 1.1-litre, 3-cylinder engine has now been replaced with a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder unit that is rated at 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm @ 1,750-2,250 rpm, while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Hyundai claims that the 2017 Xcent facelift diesel variants can deliver a fuel economy of 25.4 km/l.

In terms of safety features on offer, the Xcent facelift gets dual airbags as standard across the range. However, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is available only on the two top variants.

Interestingly, Hyundai will continue to sell the pre-facelift model, which will be called the Xcent Prime. It will be sold exclusively to fleet operators and will thus be competing against the Maruti Dzire Tour.
