2017 Mitsubishi Outlander - India launch later this year

Mitsubishi is reportedly planning to reintroduce the Outlander SUV in the Indian market, this time in its third-gen avatar. An official announcement about the launch is still awaited, though the SUV is said to be on display at some Mitsubishi dealerships across India.

Mitsubishi first launched the Outlander in India in its second-generation guise in 2008, while a facelift was introduced in 2010. However, since the Indian automotive industry had shifted its focus to diesel engines, especially in the full-size SUV segment, the petrol-only Outlander failed to make an impact. It was thus discontinued in 2013 due to low sales.

However, since the Indian market is currently showing an inclination towards petrol powered cars, Mitsubishi has decided to bring back the Outlander to compete in the rapidly expanding full-size SUV segment. The third-gen model was first imported into India for homologation in October 2016 and is now expected to be launched in the coming months.

The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander will come with a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that will churn out 164 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 220 Nm @ 4,200 rpm, while being mated to a 6-step CVT gearbox. It also comes with Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) AWD system.

The 2017 Outlander is expected to be imported from Japan and will be brought as a CBU (completely built unit). It will be sold through around 50 Mitsubishi dealerships across the country.
