2018 Jeep Wrangler spotted at Mumbai airport

Last week, a 3-door and 5-door version of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler arrived at Mumbai airport via air freight. Both the cars are right-hand drive models and may have been imported for homologation purposes. Meanwhile, test mules of the 2018 Wrangler have already been spotted testing on Indian roads.

The fourth-generation of the Wrangler was launched at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. It is offered in 4 variants - Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon. The new Wrangler retains its boxy proportions and gets subtle styling tweaks. It gets an updated front with a 7-slat grille and circular LED headlamps. It features extruded fenders and chunky bumpers. The rear comes with LED tail lights and a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate. Like its predecessor, the new model has removable doors with external hinges, foldable windshield and a choice between soft or hard top.

On the inside, the Wrangler gets an updated dashboard with a 5,7 or 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It has a 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and a twin-pod instrument cluster with a MID in the centre.

In the US, the new Wrangler is offered with 4 engine options. The 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol produces 270 BHP / 400 Nm while the 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engines produces 197 BHP / 450 Nm. The 3.6-litre, V6 petrol makes 285 BHP and 353 Nm while the 3.0-litre, V6 diesel makes 240 BHP and 570 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. The Wrangler comes with a Command-Trac 4x4 system coupled with a 2-speed transfer case. The Rubicon variant gets heavy-duty axles and locking differentials.
