2022 Mercedes-AMG SL unveiled globally

The new Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster claims to be able to sprint from 0 - 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).

German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled their all-new SL Roadster. The new Mercedes-AMG SL has been built from the ground up and is based on a new platform. It has a new design and offers a host of features, equipment and technology.

The new Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster brings back the fabric roof, the 2+2 seating layout and is offered with AWD and four-wheel steering as standard. The new AMG SL Roadster is longer than its predecessors and also has a longer wheelbase (154 mm more) than the model it replaces, the AMG GT Roadster.

In terms of design, the new AMG SL Roadster features the brand's signature Panamericana-grille. It is flanked on either side by sleek-looking adaptive LED headlamps. Similar to its predecessors, the new SL also features a long bonnet with a heavily raked windscreen. Mercedes-AMG will be offering the SL with standard 19-inch alloys with options up to 21-inches.

The SL Roadster now comes with a triple-layer fabric roof, said to reduce the weight by 21 kg, compared to the metallic roof on its previous-generation models. The roof takes 15 seconds to fold completely.

On the inside, the Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster comes with a large 11.9-inch vertically-stacked touchscreen infotainment unit, similar to the EQS and EQC models. The infotainment unit has Mercedes' latest MBUX system along with a host of connected tech and features.

The Roadster is also equipped with a 12.3-inch LCD driver's display, heads-up display, AMG twin-spoke steering wheel, turbine-style AC vents, electrically-adjustable sports seats and plenty of other equipment.

Powering the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster is a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8. The engine on the base SL 55 model produces 469 BHP and 700 Nm, while on the top-spec SL 63, it is tuned to churn out 577 BHP and 800 Nm. Both versions are mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, sending power to all four wheels via Mercedes' 4MATIC+ system.

The new Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster claims to be able to sprint from 0 - 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).
