2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500 to be launched by Q3 2021

The next-gen Scorpio will be the next to go on sale in India.

Veejay Nakra, CEO, Mahindra & Mahindra, has confirmed that the second generation XUV500 will be launched between Q2 and Q3 of this calendar year. He also confirmed that the Scorpio will be the next to go on sale in India.

Last month, we had reported that the launch of XUV500 had been delayed till September, possibly due to the shortage of semiconductors. However, the SUV is expected to go into production by the end of April, as the carmaker is said to be aiming to have a stock of around 6,000 cars before its launch.

The SUV is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion T-GDi turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel unit. It will also get an optional 6-speed automatic transmission.

The new model will get a host of advanced features including a digital instrument cluster and an array of sensors for the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

On the other hand, the Scorpio could be offered with a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 158 BHP, paired with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
