7-seater Hyundai Creta officially named Alcazar

The name Alcazar comes from a type of Moorish castle in Spain.

Hyundai has announced the official name of its upcoming 7-seater SUV. The new model will be called the Alcazar, and it is set to make its global debut later this year.

According to Hyundai, the 7-seater SUV is inspired by royal castles and palaces. The name Alcazar comes from a type of Moorish castle in Spain.

The Alcazar will be a 7-seater version of the Creta. Spy images suggest that the SUV will look similar to the 5-seater Creta, but it could get a tweaked front fascia and an extended rear end to accommodate the third row of seats. It will also feature a completely different tail lamp design, twin exhausts and front parking sensors.

The Alcazar could be offered with the same engine options as the Creta. These include 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines along with a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter automatic, CVT and a 7-speed DCT which is only offered with the turbo-petrol engine.
