7th-gen Hyundai Elantra debuts with fresh new look

The seventh generation Hyundai Elantra has been unveiled in Los Angeles. 

The new Elantra is based on the third generation K3 platform. It is wider and has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. The car features a completely new exterior and interior.

The new Elantra features a new hexagonal grille with the Parametric-jewel design pattern and wraparound headlights with slim LED daytime running lights. At the rear, the new model has triangular tail lights with an LED light bar that stretches across the width of the car. The dual-tone rear bumper houses a set of reflector strips. The car has a coupe-like roofline with a shark fin antenna and dual-tone alloy wheels.

On the inside, the new Elantra comes with a new design steering wheel and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a similarly sized touchscreen infotainment head-unit that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

In the international market, the Elantra will be offered as a hybrid with a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor producing 137 BHP and 264 Nm. This engine comes with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The car will also get a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 145 BHP @ 6,200 rpm and 179 Nm @ 4,500 rpm. It comes paired with a continuously variable transmission.
