All-electric Porsche Taycan unveiled

Porsche has unveiled the Taycan - a full-electric 4-door car. It is available in two variants - Turbo and Turbo S.

The Taycan features a coupe-like design and has 4 LED DRLs in each headlight. At the rear, it gets slim tail lights with a light bar running between them. The rear also gets a glass-effect Porsche logo.

The Taycan measures 4,963 mm in length, 2,144 mm in width and 1,378 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Porsche claims that the car's coefficient of drag is 0.22. The car rides on 21-inch alloy wheels and comes with two luggage compartments - 81 litres at the front and 366 litres at the rear.

On the inside, the Taycan comes with a leather-free interior made from recycled material. It gets a freestanding curved digital instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit system and an optional screen for the passenger. All switches and buttons have been replaced by touch controls and voice commands.

Powering the Taycan are two electric motors - one on the front axle, and one on the rear. The Turbo variant produces 671 BHP and 850 Nm. Porsche claims a 0-100 km/h time of 3.2 seconds and a range of 450 km for it. The Turbo S variant produces 751 BHP and 1,050 Nm. It has a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 2.8 seconds and a range of 412 km. The top speed of both the variants is claimed to be 260 km/h. Both variants use a 2-speed transmission.

The Taycan comes with a 93.4 kWh battery and Porsche claims that this is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts. With DC fast charging, the car can be charged to give a range of 100 km in a little over 5 minutes. Charging from 5% to 80% is claimed to take 22.5 minutes.

The Taycan comes with Porsche 4D Chassis Control which includes adaptive air suspension with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) electronic damper control, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus). Five driving modes are given - Range, Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. Porsche claims that 90% of everyday braking is performed by the electric machines alone.
