All-electric Volkswagen ID.4 India launch expected in 2023

We are likely to get the dual-motor version of the ID.4 in India. It would compete with the likes of the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Volkswagen is planning to introduce its first all-electric offerings in India. The carmaker has confirmed that the ID.4 electric crossover will be launched in the country in 2023.

The Volkswagen ID.4 is expected to be imported in limited numbers via the CBU route. Reports suggest that road trials of the car will commence by September this year.

The company has ruled out local assembly for now as it would require the setting up of a whole supply chain. It would require at least 3-4 years and huge investments. Instead, the ID.4 will serve as a test bed to evaluate the electric ecosystem in India, before moving to a local assembly.

In the international market, the ID.4 is offered in two versions. The single motor version packs 201 BHP and 310 Nm, and a 77 kWh battery that offers a maximum range of 520 km (WLTP cycle). The all-wheel-drive variant has 295 BHP from two electric motors and a range of 480 km.

Reports suggest that we are likely to get the dual-motor version of the ID.4 in India. It would compete with the likes of the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
