All-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge unveiled

Volvo has unveiled the all-electric XC40 Recharge. It is the carmaker's first electric vehicle and the first car with the Recharge branding.

The XC40 Recharge looks largely similar to the conventional powered XC40. It comes with a dual-tone roof with Recharge badging and a closed grille. On the inside, it comes with an Android-powered touchscreen head-unit with Google Maps, Google Assistant, Play Store and Volvo On Call. The car also comes with a frunk.

The XC40 Recharge has an all-wheel drive powertrain with a 78 kWh battery. It has a WLTP range of more than 400 km. It produces 402 BHP and the battery charges from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes using a fast charger. The 0-100 km/h time is said to be 4.9 seconds.

By 2025, Volvo expects 50% of its sales to comprise of electric cars, while the other 50% will comprise of hybrids. All Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrid models will get free electricity for a year. From 2020, customers entering Volvo cars website will be asked if they want a Recharge model or not.
