Andhra to stop registering petrol, diesel cars by 2024

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is planning to stop registration of petrol and diesel cars by 2024. The state is aiming to put 10 lakh electric vehicles on the roads in the next 5 years. The first step of not registering petrol and diesel cars in the state will be taken in Amaravati - the state's upcoming capital city.

Andhra Pradesh is the first state to announce an extensive electric vehicle (EV) policy. The government has announced a state grant of Rs. 500 crore for EV research and development and is hoping to attract an investment of Rs. 30,000 crore.

The state government aims to convert the entire fleet of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses into EVs by 2024. There are also plans to set up 1 lakh slow and fast charging stations over the next 5 years.
